NY-GOV POLL: Cuomo 55 (+6), Paladino 37 (-6)
Cuomo pulls away from Paladino, poll finds

HAMDEN CT - Despite his lead among the many New York State likely voters angry with state government, Republican Carl Paladino is falling behind New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic candidate for governor, and now trails 55 – 37 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.

This compares to a 49 – 43 percent Cuomo lead in a September 22 survey by the independent Quinnipiac University, conducted one week after Paladino’s landslide Republican primary win.

In the survey, Cuomo leads 86 – 11 percent among Democrats and 47 – 42 percent among independent voters. Republicans back Paladino 69 – 23 percent. The 15 percent of likely voters who consider themselves part of the Tea Party movement back Paladino 79 – 15 percent.

Describing their feelings about New York State government:

■45 percent of likely voters say they are angry;
■42 percent say they are dissatisfied;
■12 percent say they are satisfied;
■1 percent say they are enthusiastic.

Paladino leads Cuomo among these angry voters 50 – 41 percent.

“Lots of New Yorkers are fed up with state government. Those who say they are angry go for Carl Paladino – but not by all that much. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo gets the votes of 41 percent of the angry people,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

5. Jeezuz NOOOOOO!!!!
We don't need more pandering to the GOP, more cronyism, or more union bashing as campaign rhetoric.

I certainly hope he is not "a strong contender" though of course these characters all think they are.

8. My family has been ardent Cuomo supporters since his dad, Mario was in power.
We wanted Mario to run for President and then he got sick so he said no. But if Andrew wants to for...I say all the better.

12. He did not, and has called for freezing state workers wages, etc.
Cuomo has not said anything that can please labor. He seems to have bought into the proposition - at least during this campaign - that state workers, who have got about 3% raises each year for the last 4 years thanks to their union contracts, are to blame for the state's budget woes.

Of course, there is no question of voting for Paladino. One can only hope that Cuomo will change his approach after assuming office.

14. I am worried about that too...
At the WFP website, it does not appear easy to find out who is on their line in this election cycle. This web page has their endorsements:

http://www.workingfamiliesparty.org/elections/endorsements/

And they endorse all Democrats, but I am not sure that is the same as being on their line in the ballot.

10. Some voters are "angry," presumably at "government,"
and may vote for Paladino because he seems to validate their "anger."

If most of the polling is right, though, being "angry" and voting for Paladino because you are "angry" isn't going to be nearly enough to win.

It would be tough for even a relatively mainstream Republican to defeat Andrew Cuomo, let alone a crazy-ass like Carl Paladino.
