CA DUers--a question: Is the Whitman 'whore' controversy getting big play in CA?
or has it blown over? I hope it isn't something that will be prolonged and hurt Jerry. He was hitting his stride and really moving ahead prior to this.

1. I heard about it when it happened...
But not a peep since.

2. It's been in the papers
Whitman is running with it like it's all she has. Probably because it is.

It is unfortunate that Whitman and her supporters are vilifying Jerry for something one of his aides said. Don't know how many people will switch their votes based on something an aide said.

Seems like a pretty minor infraction compared to the whole illegal alien brouhaha Whitman has hanging on her.

24. Isn't it facinating that the "Guilt by Association" is only applied
to Democratic nominees but when it comes to Republicans the MSM simply ignores it.

4. I haven't heard that much about it
Is it a big surprise that somebody in a political campaign calls the opposing candidate a name?

5. What's weird is my local news isn't focusing very
much on the election except for the propositions and local runs. Without their commercials running on the air, Meg and Jerry don't seem to exist. Even the undocumented maid scandal and the whore controversy just aren't getting hardly any air time that I can tell.

6. Everyone here has already decided who they're going to vote for
We are being bombarded in the media by last-minute mud-slinging from both sides.

30. All of the candidates could save themselves a bunch of money at this point by
shutting down the commercials. I am beyond sick of looking at Meg and Carly. There is no possible way I'd ever vote for either of them, so I guess it's comforting in a perverse way to know they are wasting money on me. On the other hand, Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer are both well known and their supporters aren't about to switch, so they are throwing away money too at this point. I can't wait for this election to be over.

7. Nutmeg keeps talking about it but
then it distracts from her undocumented housekeeper of NINE years who she fired.

8. Right... the "extended family" member she unceremoniously sacked...
I still think the Latino vote might have swayed to her favor had she done the right thing and hired an immigration lawyer for this woman who was "part of the family." That's what family does, donchano. But noooooo... her first knee jerk reaction is to make it all go away... then kick dirt over it.

15. Exactly! You know they have attorneys on retainer.
So your beloved, almost a family member, housekeeper of NINE years, comes to you to ask for help getting a green card. So you fire her.

Is that the 'compassionate conservative' dimson was pretending existed?

11. Very little play. Political strategists are even down playing it with, "it's said all the time "
One rumor floated Saturday is that Brown actually said it and it's NOT gaining traction.

At the end of the day, Whitman is simply pissed because, like the voicemail tape story, the Brown campaign apology didn't grow legs.

12. Here is the SacBee article from Friday
There are some reader's comments as well.

"Jerry Brown Campaign: Candidate Didn't Make 'Whore' Comment"

http://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalertlatest/2010/10/brown-campaign-candidate-didnt.html

There seems to be some concern about how Whitman got a hold of the recording in the first place. Brown has been a part of California politics for decades. I don't think he'll be that easy to undermine. California is a strange place though. Where else could Arnold get elected governor?

16. I believe that
He has quite a reputation regarding his treatment of women. Quite honestly, I never met anyone here who found him to be a viable candidate at the time, more like an embarrassment.

22. Sorry I love jerry and lived in CA when he was gov
I was responding to the part about Arnold and why people voted for him, I don't think it was just about him being a actor...even Oprah had Arnold's wife on making it look like he would be non partisan at the time. That is what I was talking about. Sorry to confuse...

Jerry is the man and I am telling all my kids and relatives to vote for him...they don't know who he is and only see old guy....

26. Local radio
talked a lot about Arnold's history with women and harassment at the time. Once I heard him being interviewed, talking about "Hummers" and making some really tasteless sexual jokes about them, downplaying his choice of vehicles. I couldn't believe this was his way of running for office.

I saw Maria on Oprah too, probably the last time I ever watched Oprah.

20. I get the sense
that the media is seriously downplaying both the housekeeper and whore controversies. I haven't heard a thing locally about the whore comment. Media touched briefly on former Mayor Giuliani rallying for Whitman in the L.A. area. Lots of focus here is on budget cuts, school cuts and, good Lord, the Raiders beat the Chargers.

29. With the tremendous amount of TV ads she is running - virtually all of the time

I think most Californians agree with the sentiment if not the word.

Even if some one agrees with her for tax policy reasons or because they think that she will get policy passed, etc., I think she will find that if she does get elected that she will have the shortest honeymoon in history.

People are already tired of her and the campaign still has 3 weeks left.

This is likely to become the textbook case of over exposure. It will be interesting to see what the vote is.
