McCain Tells Tea Partiers: GOP Is ‘Party Of Hell No’ And Fox News Is ‘The Best Place To Get Your News’

Our guest blogger is Sam Holdren, who works for Progress Now in Arizona.

This past weekend, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) addressed a tea party rally in Arizona. Recall, during his primary campaign, many tea partiers opposed McCain and favored his opponent J.D. Hayworth. Speaking at the 2nd annual Tucson Tea Party rally Saturday, McCain was greeted with a warm reception. And he proceeded to compliment the right-wing base for “changing America.”

McCain also proudly celebrated the Republican accomplishments of obstructionism, borrowing a line from his former running mate Sarah Palin. “You know the President says that, quote, we’re the party of no,” McCain told the tea partiers. “ No, we’re not the ‘party of no.’ We’re the ‘party of hell no.’” In his opening remarks, McCain also thanked Fox News for its strong support of Republican causes, endorsing Fox as “the best place to get your news.” Watch it:

<...>

The Republican Party has a vested interest in the success of Fox News. The right-wing network has carried the party’s message for them and several of their commentators, and hosts are helping Republican candidates get elected. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) recently credited Fox for many of the tea party victories against establishment candidates. Republicans owe it to Fox to legitimize and perpetuate the tea party, so why not make a commercial for the network while you’re at it.

1. It's amazing how McCain has sold his soul to the devil
He has no honor!

4. Boy, you can say that again. He has prostituted himself for votes.
I cannot believe how low he has stooped in the last few years. I never was a fan, but am less so since 2008.

7. McCain sold his soul to the devil long ago--when he picked Sarah Palin.

12. I say even before that
An earlier point would be when he, a recipient of a purple heart, stood on the Republican stage and didn't say a word about the Republican delegates wearing purple heart bandaids. He knew precisely what they stood for and knew that John Kerry received them the same way anyone else did - he was wounded and sought medical attention - just as he should have. He also knew that in a dark period of his own life, when he was unable to control how he showed anger at the POW/MIA hearings, it was Kerry who silently sat next to him and put a calming hand on his arm, helping him regain his composure. This is something McCain spoke of in his book that dealt with that time period. He then spoke of his profound gratitude to Kerry.

He also knew Kerry and, though they will never agree on whether Vietnam could have been won, he knew Kerry's honesty and character first hand. He is a Republican and he disagreed completely with Kerry on many issues - so supporting him would not make sense. But, if he had a decent bone in his body, he would at least have asked that the bandaids be removed in respect of him and his own sacrifices - not even mentioning Kerry. If he really was a maverick and honest, he would have blasted the dishonesty of that entire SBVT campaign - but that would have been an extraordinary action and it would have killed him with the republicans. But just saying it was wrong, likely would have increased the respect moderates had for him.

16. Excellent post!
And I will add that I think McCain lost his soul even before that.

The year 2000 when Bush/Rove beat McCain in the primaries using some very nasty insinuations about him, his daughter, and his wife. Then after he lost, he was on the stage huggin W and went around campaigning for him.

I was totally done with McCain after that.

3. Republicons are simply the Party of HELL
Edited on Tue Oct-12-10 10:52 AM by SpiralHawk
What with their perverted diaper-clad wide-stance rentboy faux lesbian Family Values, their Economic Ruination Policies, their failure to protect America on 9/11, their Relentless Occult Propaganda & unarguably EVIL torture fetish, and their Perpetual Campaign of Hate & Fear.

5. He tells a particularly tasteless joke as well
about Prison food --

at a certain point he forgets who he is campaigning for

and at the end in order to get people to vote against socialism he quotes Margaret Thatcher. This was truly heinous -- even for McCain

13. ...and we all know how dedicated to the truth McCain has been.
Please help this poor old man retire - get him the hell out of Congress this November.

I see him sitting on a rocker on one of his porches muttering cusrses into his bourbon, wrapped in an old Indian blanket...
