Chris Matthews: Tea party miners would have killed each other
If the trapped Chilean miners had subscribed to the tea party’s “every-man-for-himself” philosophy, “they would have been killing each other after about two days,” MSNBC host Chris Matthews said on his “Hardball” show Wednesday night.

In an interview with AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, Matthews railed against the tea party, saying its central belief is “every man for himself. …No more taxes, no more government, no more everything. No more safety net.”

“You know these people, if they were every man for himself down in that mine, they wouldn't have gotten out,” Matthews added.

“That's exactly right,” Trumka chimed in.

Matthews continued: “They would have been killing each other after about two days.”

The “Hardball” host added that the story of the dramatic rescue of 33 trapped Chilean miners, which has dominated cable news in recent days, was an example of people working together.

“The people who were down there for two months,” he said, “the people who were above ground from all over the world, using state-of-the-art equipment, not to get rid of the need for manpower but to save manpower in this case.”

7. Every once in a while...
I wonder just a little bit how his concentration is doing. The guy's always been odd, but his general oddness seems to me to be intensifying.

2. Reminds me of something I heard on the Bill Press Show this morning...
Now that there's room, which 33 would you send into the mine shaft? (To be discussed more tomorrow.)

My list would begin with Cheney.

6. Occasionally...
Matthews gets his soul out and shakes the cobwebs off of it.

Still, I would never fault someone for "getting it" while there is still time to do something about it.

8. During the first 17 days the miners shared a small amount of food- some tuna and some other
items. They shared it equally during that time, surviving until those above ground were able to communicate with them. Sharing resources is against republican principles. So yes, most would have died. Or else the republican(s) would kill for the food instead of sharing.

11. They would have feasted upon each others' flesh until only one, fat miner remained

And he would be too fat to get up the shaft, like Winnie the Pooh.

Oh, bother!

12. I will never understand Matthews
How can he say this? Its like the dude is literally a schizophrenic jumping from one belief to the next day after day. What he says is perfectly true and for him to say this shows he has to understand what the tea party is about just a little bit, and what trips me out is how can he spout all the bullshit he normally spouts while understanding this basic truth about the tea party? There is no reason or logic behind this guys rantings.
