WV-SEN POLL: Manchin 48, Raese 38
:bounce:

Poll: Manchin up 10 points
By: Jessica Taylor

October 15, 2010 05:45 AM EDT

Democratic Gov. Joe Manchin has opened up a double-digit lead over Republican John Raese in the West Virginia Senate special election, according to a new independent poll set for release Friday morning.

The Marshall University poll shows Manchin taking 48 percent to Raese’s 38 percent, with 12 percent still undecided.

The new poll is the latest this week to show an uptick in support for the governor. The survey tested 450 likely voters on Oct. 11-12, just after former President Bill Clinton held a Morgantown rally for Manchin on Monday. The poll was conducted using live interviews and has a 4.6 percent margin of error.

Manchin, the popular two-term governor who Democrats expected would have an easy path to succeed the late Sen. Robert Byrd, has been a victim of a toxic political environment. Raese, a wealthy mining company owner, and national Republicans have spent heavily to tie Manchin to an unpopular President Obama.

But after trailing Raese narrowly for several weeks, a Public Policy Polling survey conducted last weekend showed Manchin grabbing a three percentage point lead. A Rasmussen Reports poll showed Raese on top by three, and a CNN/Time poll released Wednesday showed the race deadlocked.

The new Marshall results report Manchin with his biggest lead in an independent survey since July. As other polls have found, Manchin’s approval within the state remains high— 75 percent said he had done an excellent or good job as governor, while only 19 percent gave him a fair or poor rating.

3. Thank you for posting this.
I hope gov. Manchin will win handsomely. He has done great as governor, is a real representative of his state, and the good people of WV deserve better than an overspending half-Floridan outsourcer.

8. It was a legitimate, McCaca game changer ...
WVs like Manchin, but were buying the spin making the election about Obama ... The support wasn't for Reese, it was against the GOP boogeyman ...

Though not directly associated with the campaign in writing the ad, it reflected the overall manner in which the GOP uses people, and from a political standpoint gave Manching a rallying point to focus the voters of WV away from the sideline crape they are using to mesmerize the rest of the country ...

17. I still think Manchin's a shitburger
for calling HCR "Obamacare" when he knows perfectly well that it's the teabagger buzzword for it.

16. Awesome news
It would be tragic if another seat of one of our liberal lions fell into the hands of a pig the way that disgusting liar Brown holds Teddy Kennedy's seat now.

Glad Manchin is surging. So glad.
