Public Policy Institute of CA Poll--CA Governor--Brown opens 8-point lead over Whitman

With less than two weeks until Election Day, California’s Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jerry Brown has widened his lead over Republican rival Meg Whitman in a new poll.


Mr. Brown has widened his lead to 44% of likely voters, compared with 36% for Whitman, the survey finds. That gives him a lead just outside the poll’s 3.5 percentage point margin of error.

The poll, by the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California, is scheduled to be released tonight. Washington Wire viewed a summary of the survey and people briefed on the poll confirmed the numbers. The institute declined to comment on the survey.
