Even Ras is showing the PA Governor's race getting tighter!

Republican Tom Corbett now only leads Democrat Dan Onorato by five points in Pennsylvania’s gubernatorial race. That’s the closest this race has been since early February.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Corbett with 50% support to Onorato’s 45%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, while three percent (3%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

This race moves from Solid GOP to Leans GOP in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.

Last week, Corbett led Onorato 54% to 40%, his best showing yet. In surveys dating back to early February, Corbett has consistently held a double-digit advantage over Onorato, with support ranging from a low of 45% to a high of 54%. In those same surveys, Onorato has earned anywhere from 26% to 45% of the vote.

Corbett, the state Attorney General, is favored by 87% of Republicans in Pennsylvania, while Onorato, the Allegheny County Executive, draws support from 79% of Democrats. Among voters not affiliated with either political party, Corbett holds an eight-point lead over Onorato.

Harrisburg Republican’s sole career budget vote was to hike property taxes by 20%

SHALER: Even as he is promising millions of dollars in new spending, Tom Corbett is running for Governor on a “no new taxes” pledge. But the one time he was responsible for enacting a budget, Corbett cast the deciding vote in favor of a 20% property tax hike – while nearby communities were cutting property taxes.

As a Township Commissioner, Corbett supported the first property tax increase in Shaler in a decade, which was the sixth largest tax hike of all 130 Allegheny County municipalities that year. The property tax increase was approved by a vote of 4-3.
