Dems catching up to GOPers in Orange early voting

The enthusiasm gap in early voting favoring Republicans across Florida appears to be dwindling in Orange County.

At the close of early voting Wednesday evening, Republicans accounted for 43.3 percent of the turnout, while Democrats were trailing with 41.2 percent. The rest are in minor parties or unaffiliated.

That could be good news for candidates such as U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, who faces what appears to be a Republican-wave year that favors his opponent, former state Sen. Dan Webster, R-Winter Garden.

That GOP-exuberance showed up early on in Orange’s early voting period. For instance, Republicans held a 47-38 advantage last Wednesday, three days into early voting.

It will be interesting to watch these last three days, to see if Democrats continue to close that gap, or do early voters continue to swing to the right.
