Obama's "Daily Show" appearance draws 2.8 million viewers...
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 04:54 PM by Clio the Leo
Yeah ... SUCH a BAD idea! lol :sarcasm:

Nearly 3 Million Watch as Obama Visits Daily Show
By BRIAN STELTER

About 2.8 million people tuned in for President Obama’s interview on “The Daily Show” Wednesday night.

It was the first visit by a sitting president to the news satire show, and it was worth almost an extra million viewers for the program, which normally averages about 1.9 million viewers for its 11 p.m. airing.

Comedy Central said the interview ranked as the third-highest-rated edition of “The Daily Show” ever, behind then-candidate Obama’s appearance in October 2008 and Michelle Obama’s appearance that same month.

Of the 2.8 million viewers on Wednesday, almost 1.7 million were between the ages of 18 and 49.

The audience for “The Daily Show” has held steady for the last three years, with an average of 1.82 million viewers in 2008, 1.90 million viewers in 2009, and 1.88 million so far in 2010.

On TheDailyShow.com, parts 1, 2 and 3 of the interview have garnered about 360,000, 200,000 and 180,000 views, respectively.

5. Obama's response to the "timid" thing was glorious
I said "Woah, nice one, dude" out loud to an empty room. That segment alone is required viewing.

7. Stewart did not deserve to have Obama
He treated Con Rice better than he did Obama. I could not be more disappointed.

13. I didn't need this interview to know
that Obama can answer any tough question, simply because in 9 out of 10 times he's smarter than the interviewer and has truth and facts on his side. He kicked some serious proffesional left butt yesterday, but it's too late. These people took one of the most succeseful and PROGRESSIVE presidents in 100 years, and painted him like a failure. No wonder that the Cuckoo's Nest
is about to take over.

The next time Stewart calls the president of the United States "dude" to his face - we'll talk again.

14. have no problem with the interview
He asked tough questions that many in his audience would have asked if given the chance. Obama answered the questions. JS wasn't a dick like many on Faux, CNN or Dancing David on NBC would have been.

I think most people would watch that interview and be impressed with both Jon and the President.

19. Jon did the right thing
It made me uncomfortable for a bit but when I thought about it, it gave both of them points for courage and credibility (which you wouldn't think would be necessary for a comedy show but we know different). It gave a face to the fact that fox would never give a real interview and here, on the Comedy Network, our President will answer the hard questions, even when they come from a friend.

23. Actually, I'm glad that he did not do a softball interview.
It gave Obama a chance to answer his critics which, I feel, is much more helpful than if they'd just talk about the weather.

25. Actually, I noticed Jon rarely made eye contact with Obama. It was like he was in
permanent deferential mode, regardless of what questions were asked.

As to the questions themselves, Obama handled them gracefully and answered them with ease.

18. I had pretty much tuned out "the professional left" shortly after the election. But,
I watched last night, and it was a damned good interview. I sometimes get frustrated with the level of contempt & what I see as "disrespect" from some on the left, but Jon did a pretty good job, and as usual, the president was on his game.

If we had the equivalent to Fox News, I don't think there's any doubt that we could be a permanent majority, because our ideas are just better. It sometimes baffles me that people as smart as Jon Stewart seem to completely give the other two branches a pass, and lay everything at the WH doorsteps.

21. My 15 y.o. grandson watches JS
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 02:25 PM by madmax
He was telling ME about the interview. I didn't even know he watched TDS. He told his Mom - 'it's the real news'.
:wow:

I was floored! He's into sports and such so I didn't think he paid any attention to politics. Must be what he hears at home and from us. I'm so proud :)

On edit. I've been living here in NC for 3 years. They just moved down last month so I really don't know where his head is at 3 years is a long time. He was 12 when we moved. I'm getting to know this young man all over again and I proud of what I see and hear.
