Survey USA--Washington Senate: Murray (D) 47% Rossi (R) 47%
A new KING 5 poll finds a dead heat in the race for U.S. Senate, with 47% telling SurveyUSA they'll vote for Republican Dino Rossi, and 47% saying they'll vote for Democratic incumbent Patty Murray.

Right after the primary in August, our tracking poll find Rossi ahead. In September, it flipped and Murray took the lead. Now, it's absolutely even and too close to call. The margin of error is +/- 3.8%.

In our previous tracking polls, Murray has enjoyed a double-digit advantage among women and older voters. Our new poll finds that advantage is getting smaller.

Among women, Murray's lead is now down to just six points. As expected, she does better in central Puget Sound--about nine points ahead. Meanwhile, her lead among older voters has shrunk, but she still has a very slight edge with those over 50.

Meanwhile, Rossi is leading among independents. He continues to have more support from men with a seven-point advantage. Republicans usually do better in eastern Washington and Rossi is ahead there by 15 points. And Rossi polls best among voters 35 to 49.

The poll was conducted over three days including people with both landlines and cell phones, using automated and live interviews of 678 likely and actual voters.

With the margin so close, it may very well come down to who bothers to vote. And at this rate, we may or may not know the outcome on election night.

God, my generation is repulsive. I'm 47 and ashamed to be part of the group who never had to sacrifice and who will be leaving their kids a much worse everything than they were left. I guess payback will be a bitch when we go to draw our SS. Not all of us deserve it, but there are so many people my age who support Republican bullshit, and unfortunately, everyone will pay up the ass for it.

11. Had one on here
Bragging that they were going to sit this one out because Murray voted for that horrible healthcare bill. All I can do is shake my head and tell them that no matter what others will surely vote. No matter what others will have their back. There comes a point in time where your self righteousness becomes childish and you then become the problem. I do not like everything that has gone on in this country. However, I am not willing to let what we have accomplished be overturned because I did not like the results. Even my nine year old understands the concept.

2. Go, Patty. Let's have a huge turnout of blue voters
up there in Washington, and let's return a great Senator to the Senate and dump a reallly bad candidate yet again.

You Washington State folks -- grab a strong cup of coffee and vote early for Patty Murray.

5. I'll take that encouragement, WI_DEM.
She has deserved re-election, and Rossi is such a total weasel.

12. I think she will too
I don't think Rossi is going to squeak this one out. His internals must look pretty bad because his latest ads are nasty.

6. It is mindboggling
The masses must have short memories. Rossi agreed with everything GW Bush did. And now he runs as on a platform of change. His past is public record and we have been exposed to it time and again. And yet he is tied? I cannot understand what is happening to the American people.

How stupid are we?

7. What is happening is so insane
I plan to do more calls for patty today to remind dems in my area to vote. I already did, we have it all by mail here. How can people be so dumb and think those people will make things better? It's like they are willing to sell their soul to get their abortion & gay beliefs because you can't tell me they want unemployment to end, SS to end, and health care messed up even more...these people don't have a freakin clue what they are really voting for...

9. After Patty Murray wins, the Rossi idiots will no doubt whine about King County.
Mostly liberal King County.

That's the way it goes, teabaggers: they vote for Rossi in Eastern Washington (or West Idaho, if you ask me...) where nobody lives, and they vote for Murray in King County where everybody lives. That's why Rossi loses...

Still hoping for a Rossi-loss three-peat...

In 06 which was a wave election for the Democrats we won every close race. You can infer from that what you want.

14. Since WWII, every time the House flipped, so did the Senate.
This year may be the exception, but not if Murray loses WA.

16. Not if Murray loses?
If she loses, doesn't that increase the chances? The House is already a lost cause.

19. Murray is the firewall.
I was just saying that if Murray loses on election night it is likely enough other Democrats will have lost so that control of the Senate flips.

20. Yes, and with the House flipped too how is that different than other times?
Since WWII? You said "Not if Murray Wins" will both houses flipp, like they have since WWII. I'm confused. Her winning increases the chances.

Not like I think the Senate will flip though. I see 48 Repuke seats.

23. No, I said "but not if Murray loses WA"
Because I think Republicans will take the House but not the Senate. But if Murray loses, Republicans will have likely taken control of the Senate.

I think we are trying to say the same thing.

21. This article/poll contradicts this:
A poll from the University of Washington found that Murray led Rossi 51 percent to 45 percent among likely voters. The poll, conducted for KCTS-TV and KPLU, carried a 4.3-point margin of error.

“Patty Murray appears to be ahead in this contest,” Washington pollster Matt Barreto told KPLU. “I think you’re gonna see that play out on election night.”
