WTF, Ted Kennedy Jr comes to Baker(R)'s rescue. by penning an editorial against Cape Wind in
Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 07:37 AM by Mass
the Herald Tribune. I am not sure his father would be proud of him, even if he also opposed CapeWind, for his implicit support for Baker's positions.

In the difficult MA gov's race, Baker got today a surprising support. Ted Kennedy Jr, who rarely weighs publicly in MA politics, decides to side with Baker and against Patrick on Cape Wind, taking Baker's exact position on the topic.

He does not endorse Baker, of course, but considering he very rarely takes this type of positions, his timing is weird and the fact that this is Baker's argument even weirder.

the kicker is that he is not even a MA resident, even if he spends time on the Cape.

This said, he has shown so little interest in politics during these years that who care what he thinks.

Cape Wind: Don’t be tricked
By Ted Kennedy Jr.
Saturday, October 30, 2010 - Updated 7 hours ago

It’s nearly Halloween but the plethora of costumes cannot compare with the great Cape Wind masquerade.

Cape Wind — composed of unnecessary rate hikes, sweetheart deals and hidden costs — has been disguised by a clean, green energy cloak, camouflage enough to fool any environmentally conscious consumer into thinking that if it looks green, it must be good.

Cape Wind is not good for Massachusetts.

If you pay for electricity in Massachusetts, learn the facts about Cape Wind, the 130-wind turbine farm proposed for Nantucket Sound.

Critics will say I am opposing Cape Wind because I live on the Sound. Although a fair argument, that is not the reason I write today.

Cape Wind is a fiscal boondoggle — not a green-energy marvel.

The facts are that clean, renewable alternatives to Cape Wind exist and are already online with capacity available to sell to Massachusetts. The choice is not simply Cape Wind vs. fossil fuels — there is wind energy from Maine, hydroelectric power from Quebec and biomass from the Berkshires.
...
Today, three of the four gubernatorial candidates — including the Green Party candidate — do not support Cape Wind. Despite Patrick’s green intentions, today he needs to reconsider the financial impact of Cape Wind on higher electric rates. Families and business owners struggling to make ends meet already pay some of the highest electric rates in the country. Higher rates mean less money for investment and fewer jobs.

1. The Democratic Party has fallen apart, when a Kennedy does this.
He knew exactly what he was doing, when he wrote that article.

It's all so sad. From the spinless DNC, to the lack of ads pointing out the good things that the Dems have done in the last 2 years, to Meek staying in the FL race ensuring a Rubio Tea Party win, to Reid's lackluster performance in Nevada even when denying outrageous charges (meekly), and now this? It's no wonder the country is reverting to the opposition. There are spots of Democrats with spine, and hopefully that will be enough to stem the tidal wave.

It's all so sad.

4. If you had any earthly idea how horrible wind turbines were on the environment
You would understand why Ted Kennedy made this statement. The turbines are usually around 40 stories high. Two enormous wind farms were built in NY and ME with NO ACCESS TO THE GRID. The builder, First Wind's SEC report states that they do not have to produce electricity to make money. Also says that their power purchase agreements with foreign countries do not require for them to produce power. So there has been a real push to build them in upper state ME and NY. The whole industry is so corrupt I can only liken the propaganda to shock and awe.

Cap and Trade is already in place in New England. As an example of how wonderful it is, 40 million dollars worth of energy not produced was charged to New England rate payers. The Conn AG sued FERC and Iso New England over it. They said they would only open their books to the Justice Dept. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court where Conn and New England rate payers lost.Don't think deregulation was supposed to be like this.

6. My post isn't an op on windmills. He knew exactly what he was doing...
when he wrote that article.

He was saying...vote Republican.

That's the point.

He could've written the article weeks ago, or after the election. But he "endorsed" a Republican, by implication.

2. Ted Sr. was against this also......
Kennedy at War against Danish Wind Turbines

Haze lies close over the Kennedy Compound in Hyannisport, on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, on the east coast of the United States.

The weather is like this for 200 days a year, even on the day in May when BT came for a visit.

Here the Kennedy clan has lived for generations. It is here on Cape Cod, and on the nearby islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, that America's rich and hyper-rich come to vacation in exclusive summer houses in gated communities, and to enjoy the life on the wind swept beach.

But, for the past six years, a Danish inspired plan to build an offshore wind farm on a shoal 6.5 miles out on the Sound, between the islands, has been a thorn in the eye of the clan's patriarch, the 77 year old Democratic senator Ted Kennedy.

He is afraid that the wind farm will block the view from his patio, or so say the people in favor of the offshore wind farm, sarcastically. The well known Senator has a difficult case: He is in favor of wind turbines, but just not where he lives. "We all know that I support wind power, but it has to be done correctly, and this is just not correct," said Ted Kennedy. With his 47 years in the U.S. Senate, the Senator enjoys great respect, but less now that he, in his advancing years, has developed into a self-centered and egotistical old man.

"You can say that he is against wind turbines, because they will spoil his view," said the projects director Barbara Hill on John Edward's satirical show The Daily Show. "This is exactly what I mean. It is hypocritical," she replied. She had a chance to express the anger which many feel over the rich who take Cape Cod as their own private playground, and then consider politics as something which is settled at dinner parties.

A supporter, Dorte Griswold, who is married to an American, has twice guided groups to Denmark to see offshore wind turbines. The first time, they went to Blaavandshuk to see Horns Rev. The second time, they went to Nysted on Lolland, to see Rødsand. These visits were widely reported in the media on Cape Cod and in Boston, and have played an influential role in attracting support for the project. The most recent survey showed that a great majority favor the project.

3. Yes, but I cannot imagine him writing this type of editorial during an election weekend
Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 07:41 AM by Mass
particularly when the editorial implicitly supports Baker.

I doubt Jr is a moron, so he knew what he was doing.

8. The view will be blocked , fishermen will be out of jobs.
Rates will triple at best..for minimal power produced from off shore turbines. In 20 years or less, the turbines will have to be dismantled. The parent corporation, UPC which wanted to build the wind farm to start with has mafia ties. They also have Enron ties and conduct their business exactly like Enron and the Mafia. They are taken to court over and over but never indicted. Larry Summers was marketing director for D E Shaw Group, which owns 42% of UPC , parent company to First Wind. Powerful political connections mean they can do anything they want and get by with it.AG Andrew Cuomo investigated them for allegations of bribery of public officials and lying on their SEC reports..among other things. He had to investigate them because so many NY citizens were being threatened by this corporation's representatives.

14. In twenty years, the turbines will *BE* the view.
People will come to see this historic installation.

And wonder why over-privileged rich assholes ever thought it
would be ugly.

By the way, electric rates are going up, no matter whether or
not Cape Wind is installed. But certain people will be happy to
blame these increases on Cape Wind, n'est pa?

Right or wrong. People have brains and just because you are democratic or republican it does't mean you should be brainless

16. This is just a case of NIMBY..........
The Kennedy compound overlooks the sound where the turbines are suppose to be placed. This is just a case of the rich flexing their influential muscle in favor of their private lives.

You can equate it to republicans who love nuclear energy, until you try and build the reactor in their backyard.

18. My guess is that the RGA or the Baker campaign will have its ad tonight with
" Even Ted Kennedy's son says that".

So, with all the respect due to his father, I hope he does not have any interest in state politics, because he can wait for my support forever.
