Mika, O'Reilly asked Bush why the press hated him-not does it disturb you so many people hate you

This is a distinction worth a difference. Yet, Mika apologized profusely to Bill O'Reilly this morning for saying O'Reilly had not asked Bush the question he asked President Obama. Politicssusa has it all. Videos included.

O'REILLY to OBAMA: I asked this to President Bush when I talked to him a few weeks ago. Does it disturb you that so many people hate you? No. I mean, it's a serious question.

O’REILLY to BUSH: And that was my next question. Again, I don’t know you very well but you are affable and people around you, staff, like Dana Perino works for us now. She thinks you’re the greatest. She loves you. But people in the press hated you. A lot of them. Why? Why?

1. Not even close to the same - "people" vs. "press"?
These are almost opposite questions.

In one case, O'Reilly implies that the American people hate Obama. In the other, he implies that only the press hate Bush.

3. Exactly...

but in today's world, up is down.

Even the way the questions are asked says a lot...when O'Reilly asked PO about the "people" question, he did it as a hostile gesture, stressing the words "people" and "hate". With bush's question, it was asked "matter of factually", no emphasis on "press" or "hate".

A lot can be said for how the questions are asked as well as the content of each question. "How are you today?" is quite different from "how are you today?".

Then again, O'Reilly is far from being a diplomat...he's a McCarthy makeover, it's all about bullying people into some form of submission. Usually, it doesn't work, as most of us got over people like this after the 4th Grade, and by the 5th, the bully has either been ostracized or beaten, so they look for more targets. O'Reilly lives in a 4th Grade world, particularly when it come to intellectual capacity.

4. There's a difference between "why do these particular people hate you?" in a mystified tone
Edited on Tue Feb-08-11 12:55 PM by Empowerer
and "does it bother you that so many people hate you?"

Huge difference. Among other things, the former suggests that the hatred is isolated, inexplicable and misplaced while the latter suggests that the hatred is indisputable, widespread and valid.

But Mika walked right into that one by asking a supposedly rhetorical question without doing her homework - and gave O'Reilly a perfect opportunity to make a false equivalent and appear to be "fair and balanced.'

5. Hate is an incurable disease
It will exist as long as human beings exist. It is one of the basic
human traits...along with anger, lust & hunger.

O'Reilley is stupid to ask a question about hate. Since it is a natural
human trait, he should know it is to be expected. So why ask "WHY"?
Totally ignorant of basic human psychology!

6. He didn't want to know why. He just wanted to point out to the world that "people hate Obama"
