US releases Gitmo detainees not involved in 9-11...
For some perspective on what the President is dealing with.

The Associated Press is reporting however, that the Bush/Cheney Administration released the now new deputy leader of Al-Qaida, Said Ali AL-Shihri back to Saudi Arabia to work in his family's furniture store. Only problem is AL-Shihri is reportedly working for the Al-Qaida network in the Arabian peninsula network which includes Yemen. This is the group that has claimed responsibility for the Christmas day attempted bombing of Flight 253 bound for Detroit..... Al-Shihri, 36 was released by the Bush administration in 2007, despite the fact he had urban warfare training in Afghanistan.
The Al-Qaida leader also says his imprisonment in Guantanamo Bay only increased his desire to fight a terrorist war against the United States and it's allies

5. the reality is that obama promised to close the prison within 12 months of taking office..
so either he didn't research what that would entail, or he just lied. either way, it does not instill in me the desire to cast another vote for him.

6. I agree...
that fucker Obama should just ignore congress, forget getting their approval and funding for closing Gitmo (as required by law) and should use his own money to fund the closing of Gitmo....Obama is a king and can do whatever he wants with congress' approval especiallyu if it's a promise he made during the campaign....

16. Politifact states that this campaign promise is "stalled". He is only two years into his first term
Do you judge all presidents on their "promises" after their first two years?

10. Why is this tired argument used on this board?! Why?!
The facts are out as to why he has yet to close the prison. Either you don't know, which means you don't pay attention. Or you just want some nonsense to use against people who have known the reasons why it's not closed.

14. try reading a little closer..
obama promised something he knew little about. that's the bottom fucking line. obama never said he would close gitmo contingent upon the vote of congress. take it up with him.

18. No, YOU take it up with him. We heard his explanation and are satisfied, particularly once we
did the research and realized that hundreds were already set free who should have been set free.

This is a trite and meaningless talking point used only by those who want to criticize the President.

3. More...
The Saudi government acknowledged Wednesday that 11 men on the country's most wanted list are former Guantanamo prisoners who went through rehabilitation, raising doubts about a program intended to counter extremist religious ideology. http://www.lebanonwire.com/0902MLN/09020510AP.asp

9. No I am not.
I am also not for a place like Gitmo.

But since we have Gitmo , we will need indefinite detention to hold people for the time being while this nightmare gets sorted out.

11. Uh that has nothing to do with indefinite torture. Where are you getting this?!
The article clearly states that he released the guy despite his connections with AQ.

8. "For some perspective on what the President is dealing with"
DU is not the place to bring perspective of what Obama has to deal with....don't you know that Obama is a king and can say "fuck you" to congress and do whatever he wants?

13. It's getting tired.
Some people are so bitter , they will embrace lies just to hate on the President.

Thats not what Democrats do.
