Obama will win regardless of the rantings of the fringe.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 05:39 PM by RBInMaine
YouTube Maddow for a reminder of the vast amount of PROGRESSIVE legislation we've had under Obama. These Cornel West type hyperbolic attacks against Obama represent the fringe of the fringe. Look at any poll. Obama enjoys a 90% approval among self-described liberals across the United States. Anyone who equates Obama with the Republicans, who go so far as to call him a "corporate tool", etc., need to find their local planet. He will win in 2012, and very deservedly so.

Makes you want to RUN RIGHT OUT and work for Obama....

This is going to rate right up there with Dean v ... Lord, I think I blanked it out. I can't remember who was going against Dean. :( I love Dean. He remembers what it means to be a dem

I want all the slavishly enamored to watch the Medicare thing coming up. The shitheads handed the medicare issue to the dems ON A FRICKIN' PLATTER! If Obama yim-yams around about working together etc Medicare is dead. If he can't pick up that grenade and shove it down their throats, he is as hopeless as I feel right now.

77. You're right, he increased Job Opportunities in the Military.
Have you been out to see the good things that the middle and lower class are basking in?

In my neck of the wood, we are dealing with increased theft of agricultural products, farm equipment, and infested with beligerent squatters, have a police force that is demoralized and inneffective, have a court system that has it's caseload increase fourfold while it's annual budget has fallen 20% annually for the past two years..

I see my fellow farmers building barb wire fences, patrolling with shotguns, and you call these good things? You call the phony rise in oil prices a good thing? You really think that China has tripled its imports during this global depression? Think again. Tankers are parked full of oil while the banksters speculate to dump it on the market for a big return when their zero percent interest loans come due.

In the old days, the banks actually rented OUR money for interest rates that would allow us some sort of return.. Now we get 0.25% interest, while they get 0% interest, and then loan it back to us for 15% interest. If you have your money in savings, it is destroyed monthly by inflation.

What is certain is that good times will be coming at bonus time for the CEO's, while we pay 5 bucks a gallon a while the truckers go bankrupt from $4.50 a gallon diesel causing everything transported by them to increase in price.

Wake up. If you think these are good things, then you are certainly dreaming, or have too much money to worry about crunching the numbers for your daily budget, business, or food.

You can argu that Obama has no say on this, and that may be true, but if thats the case, then why bother re-electing a liar in the first place? We are still in Irag, Afganistan, and what the hell are we doing in Libya.. Oh yeah, Oil.

80. The Repubs are the Plucky Comic Relief to force the counterpoint
The whole strategy of the Obama campaign is the same as 2008 - Not a Batshit Crazy as McCain and Palin.

It worked back then, but it's not going to work now.

Why is it not going to work, especially when the Republicans have been crafted as such cold hearted monsters coming to take grandma's cat food money away?

The reason it will not work is because the citizens of the USA are nto going to stand for it. They can posture and wail all they want. They can slash programs and cut programs, but the backlash will be so overwhelming, Greece will look like a fistfight in the schoolyard.

The DLC strategy of "We are less crazy than the other guy" is a sham. It is purely propaganda meants to frighten timid sheeple into voting for the less of two evils. Unfortunately for the DLC, the people now realize that both parties are equally evil and are not going to be subjected to the confidence scheme they have crafted to scare us into voting for brand x.

I'm going to vote for whowever makes the most sense, and it certainly will not be Obama, Hilary, or any other DLC supplicant. That much is certain.

12. Cornel West is not "fringe."
He's a respected thinker. I spent an evening with him a few years ago; very thoughtful, good sense of humor. I made the case that W. was the worst president in history. He made the case for Andrew Johnson, who was a virulent racist who hung the newly freed slaves out to dry. I still hold for Bush as worst, but Johnson became second worst and has remained there.

He's not "fringe" by any means, and he's entitled to his opinion.

Secondly, what the Hell is a Liberal? Is that a person that thinks it's ok for Kids to play in Toxic waste? Is it a person that thinks Tax breaks for Dr. Evil's Corporate Empire is a good thing?

Or is a Liberal of the mind that they can continue to Print Money is a grand ponzi scheme until the people thay are pawning it off on wise up and demand payback with something real?

Do liberals think that since we were led into a War based on lies, it's OK to continue it in order to save face, even thoung it has no merit other than requiring more Weapons of Mass Destruction from the entrenched Arm's Dealers which happen to produce the mojority of the Food and Doo Dads that keep the sheeple mesmerized?

Frankly, the term liberal is a term best used in reference to a salad bar, portions in a restaurant, or the selection of healthcare. It is meaningless as a political label.

Everything would be so much easier if I could just pretend that all of the terrible decisions Obama has made were actually great.

Failed policies in education, race to the top, charter schools
Failed foreign policy, Afghanistan, Libya
Failed tax policy, Bush tax cuts
Still torturing American citizens, Bradley Manning
Same failed trade policies, outsourcing of manufacturing, exploitation of cheap labor abroad

It just goes on and on. Oh, but I guess I should fully support him because he helped repeal DADT. These Obama loyalists blow my mind. Obama is wrong on all these issues, his positions have nothing to do with the republicans, they aren't forcing him to stay in Afghanistan, they didn't force him to make Arne Duncan secretary of education, they didn't make him appoint Tim Geithner, they didn't force him to keep the same failed free trade policies, those are Obama's beliefs. How someone could just ignore all that is beyond me.

President Obama has had a difficult job, but he also has negotiated away a lot of change. He definitely deserves some criticism.

However, one need not refer to him plainly as "Obama", and one need not engage in ad hominem attacks against other Democrats.

I will support President Obama if he is the nominee of the Democratic Party, but I will not be giving money to his campaign nor will I be canvassing for him this time. Mandatory health insurance is not single-payer health care for all. President Obama's soft handling of Wall Street and his preemptive exclusion of single-payer health care are significant problems. To some extent, this has earned him the label "corporatist".

69. "some of whom absolutely hate Obama"
Who?

Prove it?

I haven't heard from ANYONE here on DU who "hates" Obama (well, anyone who wasn't immediately tombstoned)...

What "fringe"?

You mean the majority of extremely disappointed and disaffected basically decent USAmericans who expected something out of him other than punting on 1st down?

51. Goddamn, you love the word "fringe," don't you?
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 10:23 AM by RandomKoolzip
It's like every fourteenth word you type.

Believe me, liberals are not "fringe." What - do you think people on the left are all bomb-making hermits who never leave the house unless to plot revolution at the local puppet theatre? That we have no contact with "normal" people? That we AREN'T normal people?

Listen, bud: we have friends and family. We have jobs, we work hard. We buy things, we pay taxes. We may have (gasp!) ideals, but it's not like we're all living in some Sedona art commune somewhere, rubbing crystals and praying for UFO abductions or some shit - all stereotypes just as much as the sniffily dismissive and elitist epithet "fringe" is.

I resent and reject your framing of a valuable voting bloc and a population that totals in the tens of millions. And I suggest you find another word besides "fringe" to describe American internet users involved in left politics, because there's millions of us. What if the rest of the country started referring to all Maine residents as "fringe?" Something tells me you'd think it was unfair - well there ya go.

52. Expect the noise to grow even louder, especially from those "progressives" of the Ralph
Nader ilk who always work to hand the advantage to the Republican challenger. They've been gearing up for this since Obama won in '08. This notion that some legitimate third party will emerge from the wreckage of a fractured Democratic Party is ludicrous. We saw this movie in 2000, and the result wasn't pretty.

Great post, BTW. :hi:

Obama is not daddy.
Obama is not a man on horesback; he is not a dictator.

he is not in the business of telling Congress what to do or what to pass.

That is their job and their responsibilty. I expect them to step up and do what is necessary. I will not give them a free pass.

56. I don't necessarily trust your political predictions since you made some wrong predictions prior
to the 2010 midterms. Anyone who thinks they know with an absolute certainty that Obama will be reelected doesn't understand politics.

Yes, at this point I would have to call him a solid favorite to win reelection, but too many unpredictable things might happen between now and the election to make that a sure thing. The economy could descend back into a recession for one thing.

57. What matters
Congress.

There is an election in 2012. Obama will be re elected.
What matters are the elections to the HoR and Senate.

Concentrate on this task: electing liberals to Congress.

67. Love me, I'm a liberal...
I cried when they shot Medgar Evers
Tears ran down my spine
I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy
As though I'd lost a father of mine
But Malcolm X got what was coming
He got what he asked for this time
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I go to civil rights rallies
And I put down the old D.A.R.
I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy
I hope every colored boy becomes a star
But don't talk about revolution
That's going a little bit too far
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I cheered when Humphrey was chosen
My faith in the system restored
I'm glad the commies were thrown out
of the A.F.L. C.I.O. board
I love Puerto Ricans and Negros
as long as they don't move next door
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

The people of old Mississippi
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can't understand how their minds work
What's the matter don't they watch Les Crain?
But if you ask me to bus my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I read New republic and Nation
I've learned to take every view
You know, I've memorized Lerner and Golden
I feel like I'm almost a Jew
But when it comes to times like Korea
There's no one more red, white and blue
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I vote for the democratic party
They want the U.N. to be strong
I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs
I'll send all the money you ask for
But don't ask me to come on along
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But I've grown older and wiser
And that's why I'm turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

-------------------------------------

God, preserve me from wishy-washy "liberals"...

72. Did they legalize Ectasy for use in Tap Water recently?
Because thats what it sounds like these people are affected from when they promulgate in no uncertain terms that Obama will win.

Just because big business has annointed him with the sweet smelly aroma of money doesn't mean we will vote for him./

To make sure the investment works, they will tell the Republicans to act even more crazy to seal the deal, but the people are smarter than that now.

The thought process of these Oligarchs is severely flawed and broken, and they think that pulling rhetoric and sound bites out of their ass and throwing them against the wall is actually going to work after the horrific damage caused by the insane policies, cintinuing and corrupt monetary policy, and a leader who is quite comfortable lying to the face of those that elected him.

I you are embedded in the Corporation so deeply that you have no other way of survival, be my guest, vote for more of the same, but you may be in the minority when you leave the gated community and venture into the real world where real people live.

95. Right. Difference is that he is only one man......
and not even a dictator.

If you can have an entire state riled up, like Wisconsin,
and the vote is still too close to call.....
understand that it takes a whole lot more than some are willing
to give to actually get things done.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obama loses his bid in 2012....
but as one man, he will have to move on.
Meanwhile, we will be stuck up to our necks in some serious doo-doo...
the kind that leaves a lasting mark.

I don't mind people whining about Obama here to be honest. Because I know from Dean vs Kerry, and Obama vs Clinton that everyone lines up and loves the Dem nominee by the time the Repub convention finishes.

Yup, Obama will win regardless of the drama queens here crying all the time...in fact, most of them will vote for him.
