A Ron Paul/Jesse Ventura presidential ticket??

Jesse said in an interview he would consider being Ron Paul's running mate if Paul ran for president.
Wonder how many people would actually consider voting for them if they did run??

2. Ventura, when he first ran for the Minnesota Governor's office, ran on The Reform Party

ticket. It's the party the Perot created when he ran for president. After winning the governorship, Ventura quit the Reform Party, my guess is that it lacked any real organization, and just declared himself an independent.

Ventura has a pretty far right-wing view, probably more in line with Ron Paul's 2008 campaign rhetoric.

He's actually seemed rather Libertarian and very far from the right wing view point. He even calls himself a Barry Goldwater Republican. Possibly depending on the issue it shifts....but I haven't seen that.

He's a left leaning libertarian, much like Ron Paul is a right leaning one. Jesse supports government healthcare, abortion right, gay marriage, and wants to scrap the electoral system.

He also believes in the right to carry concealed weapons.

He's not for abortion, he's just for keeping it legal on Constitutional grounds.

He also supports doing away with income tax and replacing it with a national sales tax - which has never worked.

"I’d like to see us do away with income tax entirely and go for a national sales tax. The government could collect the money it needs by placing a tax on the goods and services we buy. Then states could add their own taxes on top of that."

He's more right-wing than people like to believe.

It's the other issues that make then left or right leaning. He was on The View today saying he disagrees with Ron Paul on abortion, and that he's pro-choice. He certainly is pro-choice. Now, I have never heard one person yet claim to oppose abortion, but say they can't because they think there's a constitutional right to an abortion. However, I have heard plenty say the opposite: That they think abortion should be legal, but there is no constitutional right to an abortion, and Roe vs. Wade was wrongly decided. I'm one of them.

Ron Paul supports repealing the income tax...and replacing it with nothing. Now that's right-wing. Jesse wanting to replace it with a NST, is, well, maybe right wing but certainly not AS right wing.

When did he say that about health care? In his "American Conspiracies" book he says he supports free healthcare.

and invest it in solar power - I don't consider him a flake. I consider him honest and knows more about what he's talking about than those pundits (like George Stephanopolis) who interview him.

Having said that, we have seen how some candidates campaign on one platform and do the exact opposite when they get in the White House. Given the track record of some candidates, I would trust Ventura as much or even more (as former military and knowing his background) as I would trust those he would hypothetically run against, if he were to run. Because of Ventura's background, I believe that he would not be accused of being weak or afraid to kick ass.

I think their presence in the race would help bring a lot of issues into focus that are usually ignored but that Progressives care about deeply.

If you read a lot of what Ron Paul has said recently re: how can you justify cutting education and programs for the poor when they are a fraction of the cost of these dumb wars? you realize how important this message is coming from the king of the Libertarians. I mean, even the Libertarians are coming out and saying the GOP wants to cut back social programs too much. This is a useful message.
