Next week House Republicans will commit political suicide

It's official: next week, House Republicans will be asked to walk the plank and vote for Paul Ryan's 2012 budget plan, including it's proposal to eliminate Medicare and replace it with vouchers. The Hill:

The House Republican 2012 budget resolution that would cut $5.8 trillion over 10 years was reported out of the Budget Committee on Wednesday night after a day-long markup. It now heads to the House floor for a vote set for next week.

Good! No matter how they will try to defend their vote, the House GOP members who vote for this lunatic plan will have the tag that "They voted to eliminate Medicare." Their democratic opponents will have TV-ads proclaiming that. The drift of elderly folks towards the GOP on the grounds that Obama's health care plan cuts Medicare will be muted. It may very well pass the house, but it won't pass the Senate, and even if it did--Obama would no doubt veto such a bill.

2. I hope that DU will not blame Obama no matter what happens.

Budget bills begin in the House of Representatives.

Too many people here on DU wrongly believe that the president controls the budget process. He doesn't.

3. Obama will make excuses for them.

He'll call their plan "ambitious" and "good faith". Then argue that it's not good to kill all the seniors on Medicare. How about only half?

What he won't do is get on TV and say "this is bullshit and I will not sign it."
