Rep. Paul Ryan's plan a perfect target for President Obama?By GLENN THRUSH | 4/11/11

Obama’s White House advisers scoff at the notion that they are focused on anything other than juggling multiple domestic and foreign crises. And his top political advisers say there’s plenty of time to draw clear contrasts as the budget talks and GOP presidential politics play out over the next months.
“The time will come when we’ll have to deal with all that,” said campaign strategist David Axelrod. “In the meantime, I think we’ll be fine if
sticks with his message, which is dealing with the nation’s problems in an earnest way.”
But, Axelrod added: “The contrast is important. And that’s the problem with the long Republican primary; if anyone of these candidates challenges the , they get booed out of the room.”
Obama’s team is obviously watching the GOP contenders closely, waiting for one to break out of the pack and eager, almost wistful, about the prospects of tweaking Romney on health care or former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty on his kind words for the Ryan plan.
“These guys are keeping out of the race to keep themselves from being a target,” Axelrod said. “But you look at Tim Pawlenty; he’s a guy who’s really going after it.”
Added another Democrat allied with Obama: “The job here is to frame what the choice will be, and the Republicans are doing it for us ... by being, basically, a bunch of clowns.”
