1. Don't apologize.
You don't mean it anyway.

On the other hand, I will say "sorry" to you. Must suck.

23. Don't forget, things won't even begin to change until Jan. 2013. That's the earliest.
The super-rich will continue to get their tax-cuts until then.

9. What is bullshit?
And, how am I wrong or transparent?

He told me once that he wouldn't extend the Bush tax cuts. Tell me why I should believe him this time.

Try to answer with facts or intelligence this time.

12. Yeah, that's what all those "live" threads re: the speech are for.
No one says anything about the speech until it's completely over. I can't believe you didn't notice that! haha

I won't believe it when I see it, but when I see it consistently over a long period of time, not the usual Democratic half-hearted token effort before giving the GOP everything they want.

15. Very true and a justifyable concern. But the speech itself was an attempt to push back against repub
talking points. I hope he keeps this up.

16. This is what I love about DU...
For a week we heard that Obama hasn't specifically said this or that so we should all be concerned that he really might overtake our cities, shoot our elderly and rape our women.

Now that Obama has spoken, we're going to hear, "well, results only matter..."

Of course not. You know that is a line of bullshit. Results only matter when Pres. Obama doesn't specifically say something you disagree with. Yet you'll all happily pounce when he either says nothing (for a bit, anyway) or hints at something that you oppose (because then words matter!).

Now that that (once again) has not happened, the goal posts will shift, and the outrage machine will change the topic.

State of the Union all over again.

21. I never said any of that stuff. And, I don't agree with any of it.
I thought the speech was good. And I consistently give him credit when he does good.

But, that doesn't mean I'm going to stop criticizing him when I think he is wrong.

Now, you show me where you've posted criticism.

25. You didn't say you thought the speech was good...
You said you were trying to like the speech but couldn't.

How about...

"This speech is something I can get behind. I hope Pres. Obama lives up to his words...our country depends on it."

Or something less dismissive?

Because that goes beyond criticism, unfortunately. We hear for a week that Obama needs to say this or that and he finally does say this or that and, in your own words, it's not good enough - now we need actions.

Well you do know it was a speech, right? It wasn't a workshop or an actual vote on his proposal - it was a speech. That's it. It was words. You had to have known that going in.

So if you had your mind made up that you were only going to wait for results before you praised this administration (and I'd have put criticized - but you already did that, even if you agreed with what he said), why watch the speech at all?

I guess I just don't understand that line of thinking.

32. I didn't say I couldn't like his speech. I said I will get excited when his actions match his words
Big difference.

Again, you've never heard any of that stuff from me. And, I never once agreed with any of it. So, quit trying to claim that it came from me.

I think my OP POINTS OUT that I know it was ONLY a speech.

I watched the speech to see what he would say, and I liked it. Now, like I said earlier, I will wait to get excited when his actions match the words in his speech.

I know you wish I hated the President, but I really don't.

34. It was a speech...
You had to have known what you were going to get heading into this thing, right? I mean, you really didn't expect action today - so what is the point of watching if you're going to dismiss it anyway?

It's not about hating the president, my friend. It's about trying to understand your gripe here. We all hope his actions match his words, but it doesn't mean we can't at least like that he's putting it out there.

But again, it was a speech. You knew it was going to be a speech and yet you still watched knowing that there would be zero action today.

That just confuses me.

(remember Tip O'Neill's all politics is local), because the BS that comes out of DC and this POTUS's mouth is sickening. So spare me your jibe. We've all heard Nodrama's "pretty words" before.

Great......delussional, but great that you feel that way.

I'm sure we won't be counting on you to help
raise taxes on the rich, cut defense or
maintain medicare and SS benefits.....

cause it looks like you are so far gone.

It smells like hatred, and I don't doubt that it is....
and that his failure will be your personal victory.
