Ezra Klein: Ryan 2012?
Ezra Klein: Ryan 2012?

I don’t think it’s likely that Rep. Paul Ryan will run for president in 2012, but if you’ll excuse a double negative, I think it’s less unlikely than people realize. Particularly if President Obama’s poll numbers continue to sag.

The arguments for Ryan’s run would be mostly the same as those for Obama’s run, with the big differences being that a) Obama looks a lot stronger in 2012 than the Republicans did in 2008, b) Ryan would be starting a lot later in the process than Obama did and c) the current Republican field is a lot weaker than the Democrats’ 2008 field, which included Hillary Clinton, a pre-scandal John Edwards, Joe Biden, Bill Richardson, etc.

1. So the guy that wants to get rid of Medicare might run?
Well it is something I suggested a few months ago.

Should be interesting.

3. I wouldn't be surprised. He's already trying to channel reagan, visually - with that new hair.
I think he had a makeover and that it was deliberate. Not just to deemphasize his "Eddie Munster" association. Dark and greasy-looking with a side part and lopsidedly more hair on the "fat" side of the part that sticks up and out - just like st. ronnie's did. I think he's channeling his patron saint and trying to connect subliminally with all the reagan fanatics still out there. And he's got an ego the size of Air Force One, especially from all the genuflecting of the Beltway media, hailing him as being "bold" and "courageous" for that piece-of-shit excuse for a "budget". Why wouldn't he want to go for the brass ring after all this?

4. And I suppose Ezra would like that ...
He did after all admit how he "liked" Ryan, because he's a "policy" guy. No matter that his policies are drivel that don't add up. He tried to weasel out of it later, but I really think Ezra is still looking for a reasonable Republican he can counterintuitively support. Good luck finding one.
