"Miss Jean Louise. Stand up. Your father's passing."
This OP from 2008 moved me so much and I think about it often. It particularly resonates today in light of our President's gracious and dignified response to the hateful, race-mongering birther crowd.

excerpt:
That is the mark of greatness. The man who stood there without being acknowledged, unflinching and without a spark of bitterness in his heart, is the next President of the United States.

It’s about Respect. It’s about Hope and the Future of a nation. It’s about the struggle for Human Dignity throughout the ages.

It is, most of all, about Equality.

“Miss Jean Louise, stand up, your father’s passin’.”

3. +1
Thanks! Just bookmarked for future reference when things get difficult again. I felt a lump in my stomach this morning over the way our POTUS is being disrespected. I always thought his journey would be difficult, but it's tougher to watch than I expected.

4. Confession time...
...when AFT was having its balloting for the 100 greatest lines from American movies, I kept deleting my cookie from them, and voting for this line again....

5. Hope...Respect...and the Future....
Yes.

Where is that "teary eyes" emotie?

Also, To Kill A Mockingbird, one of my all time favorites. OMG how I love that film. Getting teared up again just thinking about it!

6. "If you can keep your head when all about you men are losing theirs and blaming it on you"
Barack Obama is a mensch. I've never had more respect for him than I did today, and that's saying a lot.

I worry about all those kids who think they might want to serve their country as president someday, though. We're surely losing them with this horror show.

7. Absolutely ...
I wept today for this gentle man who stands head and shoulders above almost all in this country - of every race, color or ethnicity. I am embarrassed and ashamed for our country. We must be the laughingstock of the world...except it is no longer funny.
