1990 NYTimes: First black elected to head Harvard Law Review
http://www.nytimes.com/1990/02/06/us/first-black-elected-to-head-harvard-s-law-review.html

Interesting archive from the 1990 New York Times.

Snippet:

The Harvard Law Review, generally considered the most prestigious in the country, elected the first black president in its 104-year history today. The job is considered the highest student position at Harvard Law School.

The new president of the Review is Barack Obama, a 28-year-old graduate of Columbia University who spent four years heading a community development program for poor blacks on Chicago's South Side before enrolling in law school. His late father, Barack Obama, was a finance minister in Kenya and his mother, Ann Dunham, is an American anthropologist now doing fieldwork in Indonesia. Mr. Obama was born in Hawaii.

<snip>
The president of the law review usually goes on to serve as a clerk for a judge on the Federal Court of Appeals for a year, and then as a clerk for an associate justice of the Supreme Court. Mr. Obama said he planned to spend two or three years in private law practice and then return to Chicago to re-enter community work, either in politics or in local organizing.

6. this is one of many instances that I am so thankful for the internet
In the old days you would have to go to the library or the newspaper and look through microfilm.
No telling how long it would take to look up a 21 year old article.

7. I love the internet (esp. You Tube)
in that it's made it MUCH harder for the Repubs to lie- and get away with it. Sure, the media still does a horrendous job getting the truth out there (or challenging the righties) but at least the truth is getting out there more to some people instead of none.

11. You missed out
A thousand points of light is probably just an xbox term to young whippersnappers like yourself. For the older gents in their early 30s like myself it was a term we didn't understand in junior high and still don't get.

9. That article is obviously a fake.
I see smudges on the corners of it. The font is way off, too.
