Isn't it time for an Oval Office Address on Clean Energy/High Gas Prices?
Edited on Thu Apr-28-11 06:03 PM by rhombus
Use the bully pulpit, Mr. President. Why is the GOP insisting on giving billions in subsidies to the oil and gas industry? Why not use that money to fund an Apollo-type Clean Energy initiative? Put the GOP on the spot.

We could use some offense from Democrats and the White House.

Oh, we now have GOP Rep. Paul Ryan also calling for an end to oil subsidies. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/53895.html

2. "bully pulpit"
Every interest group on the left uses this canard to push their pet issue. "bully pulpit"; "show leadership"...blah, blah, blah.

Do you people even know that the president gives a weekly radio address? Most of the shit that's complained about in the leftosphere has already been covered. No one can make you listen, but the president can't drop everything and make a show stopping speech because you're too lazy to google.

3. If you want to grab attention, go for a primetime address

Weekly radio address gets lost in the shuffle. Lots of folks are not as tuned in to politics as most here are.

6. The networks already bitch about giving up ad dollars for "primetime addresses"...
Just how many times a week should the president do this, and how long before his audience is about the size of the audience who listens to the weekly radio address? You can't stop primetime everytime you want to hear the president say what you think everyone needs to hear. It's as simple as dollars & cents.

5. Problem is, very few people pay attention to Weekly Address
It doesn't drive the conversation like a primetime address would.

8. The media took away the Bully Pulpit.......and they have controlled it for some time now...
They decide if what the President says is worth broacasting. If you haven't watched as the mindless news readers talk over the President about 3 minutes into any of his speeches, and announce that they will get back with us if he says anything of importance, then you haven't been watching television for like the last 2 years.
