Was I dreaming or did I hear that correctly?
AARP is now on board with cutting SS benefits. I woke up this morning with the clock radio reporting the news that AARP will now agree with cuts across the board.

3. I saw the same thing on Morning Joe today. They had a screen shot of a headline
that seemed to say that AARP was open to some cuts in SS benefits...nothing more was said tho...

5. Not really. Excerpt from and link to the WSJ article mentioned on Morning Joe
Mr. Rother responded that "some of our members will no doubt be upset by any such effort, but I believe most would welcome a balanced and fair proposal that could strengthen the program for future generations and possibly even improve it for current vulnerable beneficiaries."

There are limits to how far AARP is willing to go. The group will accept cuts, but won't champion them, and it is particularly leery of certain concepts such as eliminating benefits for wealthier recipients.

It wants tax increases to fill most of the program's financial hole, and it insists that a deal must be crafted apart from broader deficit-reduction negotiations.

AARP recently launched a multimillion-dollar ad campaign to fight against making Medicare and Social Security cuts part of the broader debt talks now under way. That has reinforced the impression among many in Washington that the group is opposed to dealing on Social Security at all.

6. This could be propaganda
"There are limits to how far AARP is willing to go. The group will accept cuts, but won't champion them...AARP recently launched a multimillion-dollar ad campaign to fight against making Medicare and Social Security cuts part of the broader debt talks now under way."

So AARP is going to secretly support unspecified cuts to a point, but spend millions publicly opposing all cuts?

The WSJ is on a roll with poll questions:

How should Social Security benefits be cut?‎

Should Social Security increases be capped at 2% yearly to balance the Budget?

Still, in case it isn't, would AARP members stand by and allow this to happen?

7. I heard it last night on TV
Couldn't believe it. I don't trust AARP, especially after they didn't initially support health care reform. They don't really advocate for seniors, they advocate (sell) for insurance companies. They really are more of a marketing company.
