Rick Perry's Contradictory, Convoluted Sense of Reality

I've heard of politicians flip-flopping, but this is ridiculous. Rick Perry, who has been courting the evangelical vote with a hard-on seldom seen since this side of Pinocchio, wants to appear as though he's against gay marriage. On the other hand, he wants to appeal to traditional GOP advocates of states' rights who prefer to see social issues handled below the federal level.

He can't have it both ways, right? Well, he's sure trying. Consider how he addressed the subject in an interview reported by The Associated Press:

Perry, 61, said social issues should be decided state by state and even remarked that New York's passage of gay marriage law was that state's business. Still, he said he would support a constitutional amendment that takes away the power of the states to decide who can get married. "Yes, sir, I would. I am for the federal marriage amendment," he said. "And that's about as sharp a point as I could put on it."

Jesus once said it's harder for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven than it is for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. Well, it's even harder than that for a person to support one position and its converse - simultaneously. Speaking of needles, Gov. Perry should get plenty of needling for trying to do so. Maybe he needs to go back to college and take a course in logic.
