The Black Man That Was Handed The Nation’s Worst Job – Barack Obama
Edited on Sun Aug-21-11 06:28 PM by ClarkUSA
WASHINGTON—African-American man Barack Obama, 47, was given the least-desirable job in the entire country Tuesday when he was elected president of the United States of America. In his new high-stress, low-reward position, Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation's broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis. As part of his duties, the black man will have to spend four to eight years cleaning up the messes other people left behind.

I always say things happen for a reason. Maybe it is because I believe in optimism and reenforcing the positive... If anyone thought reversing decades of reckless spending, deregulation, the gutting of social programs, expensive health care system, cowboy foreign policy, losing 700,000 jobs a month, two wars, the worst economic crisis since the depression, America's sunk standing in the world, a country that had been misled into accepting the use of torture of prisoners of war, a failing educational system, a global environmental crisis, an auto industry in shambles, a skyrocketing debt, climate change denial, failure of global institutions, Osama bin Laden, etc., will be easy to resolve, they were completely fooled. These were just the cream of the crop of where the legacy of Barack Obama started. Unfortunately, he did not have a choice on the matter. We choose it for him.

I am glad I choose him for the job though. I am glad America choose him too because as Frank Schaffer ones said:

We Americans are very lucky people. A sane and compassionate president is in charge. Over an 8 year period he will change American history for the better. Only President Obama's dimwitted and/or hate-filled opponents are unlucky: they are betting against a political genius who also happens to be a very good human being.

~Frank Schaffer

It is my hope we afford him to catch a break by focusing on the good he has done and is doing and the damage the Republicans are doing to America...I invite you to watch this clip courtesy of The Obama Diary to show you the man really does care about all Americans: http://tinyurl.com/gobama2012

3. +1
He knew what kind of mess the country was in and chose to run for office, and chose to take on the quagmire Bush left for his successor. Obama wasn't "handed" diddly. He stepped up and asked to take it on.

23. I believe him too, and it terrifies me - he must have lived his whole political life in a bubble
But being a good corporate coalition builder, I'm sure he's never risked exposing himself to that wild leftwing conspiracy theory stuff about the ultra-wealthy, multinational corporations, or the history of fascism.

Is it possible he's still running blind on all this? That he actually BELIEVES the whole corporate mythos? That would certainly explain a lot.

14. Obama and every other potential nominee
chose to run before this country's mess was close to what it was when he took office. In fact I don't recall a whole lot of talk about the economy at all, from anyone, during the primaries. I don't remember panic or any urgency until late summer and fall, 2008, those last few months before the election when the shit really hit the fan. I remember, at the time, wondering if Senator Obama was quietly regretting his decision to run.

Of course, it is entirely possible my memory isn't as accurate as I think.

John Edwards, for all his faults, talked constantly about the economy. About the 2 Americas, even when he ran with John Kerry. So either he was a fucking genius, or Obama is a fucking idiot.

find something, anything regardless of what the topic is to complain about...A CRYING SHAME!

BTW-No, Obama nor any of the best economist knew how bad the economy was when Obama first decided to run or even when he took the oath. Just keepin it real!

6. Pretty shocking to see this piece pulling the race card.
Edited on Sun Aug-21-11 06:46 PM by Wilms
"African-American", "the black man", "young, black, handsome"; why is this germane to the discussion?

Here's another statement I don't get.
"Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation's broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis."

The chance to deal effectively with the repair of the crumbling infrastructure was passed up in favor of a $16 trillion dollar international bank bank bail-out and executive bonus assurance program he was party to. And no one expects their "every whim" to be catered to by the POTUS except a racist who calls him "boy".

As to the comment, "...a country that had been misled into accepting the use of torture of prisoners of war, a failing educational system...", it is fair to point out that anyone thinking he's done anything to end torture, and nothing to continue it, or done much good for the educational system in hiring Arne Duncan, is misleading the reader.

Meanwhile, a "sane and compassionate president is in charge" of deploying drones that have killed over a hundred children.

I agree, that there is much he is doing and has accomplished as pointed out in the linked DailyKO's article. Better to stick with the "List" than to make the bizarre statements in this article. It merely reinforces the notion that a faction defends the record of this right-leaning administration comfortable with placing progressive ideals under the bus.

9. Unfortunately, it's not all that shocking to see - yet again - a discussion of race dismissed with a
sneering reference to "the race card."

That seems to be par for the course around here lately.

10. I'm not "sneering". I specified that I was "shocked.
In addition to that mis-attribution, I certainly mind being lumped in with other posts, of which I am unaware, you claim are "par for the course around here lately".

What I did ask was "why is this germane to the discussion?".

If there is something I am missing in being a proponent of a color-blind assessment of the Obama presidency, please let me know.

no one else could have stood under all this pressure with all those problems. I am convinced of that. And also very glad he's not a raging lunatic about it - we need someone mature in charge, and that is President Obama.

when was the last time the US had a mature President? been a long time.

Before which the Clinton administration took them all aside and gave them the rundown - including BinLaden's plan for New York,
The Shrubbies thought it would be fun to let the Black President walk into office (one he earned) as if it were a surprise party.

I'll also send him thank you cards on behalf of my unemployed friends (they can't afford to buy them).

Poor Obama they are picking on him because he's biracial. Don't expect sympathy for a guy who spent months bloviating and making speeches (in between his rounds of golf) with very little to show for it. The rubber is hitting the pavement and his inexperience is showing in spades.

22. "In charge?!" I thought Obama was completely powerless.
I mean, that's typically the defense his supporters use when condescendingly attempting to explain why things have gone completely to shit even though we have a Dem in charge.

"Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation's broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis..."

But, alas, he won't do any of these things, because, as his supporters on DU are always sure to point out, he doesn't actually HAVE any real power and I (as well as anyone with the temerity to point out how a strong liberal president is needed at this point in history) "don't know how government works."
