Everybody was assuming that this referred to oral administration, but I don't believe it required that.

I actually first heard this in a science fiction book (don't ask me which one I've forgotten), where a woman who was w/o a partner bought some sort of male harmone concoction that gave her the "post coital" feeling without the need for a male.

It sounded at the time like something my wife would have wanted on occasion. :)

The women who are in the non-condom using group were more likely in stable, committed relationships, overall, while multiple partnering, "safe-sex" types were short-termers.

The study he was referring to was in fact published back in 2002 by Gordon Gallup, a psychologist at SUNY-Albany. His team found that women whose partners didn't use condoms were less depressed. They also found that depressive symptoms and suicide attempts were higher among women who used condoms regularly compared to those who didn't. Moreover, the women who didn't use condoms became more depressed the longer they went without having sex. Gallup suggested this was because semen contains oestrogen and prostaglandins which have been linked to lower levels of depression, and oxytocin which promotes social bonding. *

*a possibility, but equally likely the non-condom users were more depressed the longer they went without sex, because it was probably also the longer they went without a LTR.
