Why do they dislike unions?
I know why big bidniss types don't like unions.

I know why bug bidniss wannabes (like the early 20s restaurant manager with the wad of keys and the too tight pants) don't like unions.

But why are unions disliked by so many of your average hourly worker types? I don't get that.

19. from the red scare on
they simply lie about what unions do to get workers to fight against their own interest.

2. The M$M has convinced them that the Unions
are only causing problems because apparently Unions protect bad workers and such bullshit like that.

3. Because they've been brainwashed over the years to believe unions are bad. And
anymore the R's are trying to brainwash the masses that anything that helps them maintain our standard of living is bad too.

4. They think unions drove GM to Mexico
and all the other companies to China
and take all our tax money for their cushy public servant jobs

Plus, when resources are scarce (jobs) - it's easier to hate on the people you're competing with than it is the people you're sending your resume to.

7. Unions have done
a terrible PR job on their own behalf. Stop 10 people on the street and ask their opinion of unions. I'm willing to bet more than half would describe unions are
'run by thugs', 'corrupt' 'making illegal campaign contributions' and so on. If I were the Unions I'd pool money together to buy air time and show movies like "Matewan". Then I'd have an on going campaign in the papers and on the "Net about the benefits of being in a union.
What people, most anyhow, don't realize is that people died for the right to organize.
It's all about power and the other side ain't giving any up voluntarily...............

17. Yes, but unions are typically not as well financed as their ANTI-UNION corporation machines
It's difficult to have good PR/marketing when the corporation spends enormous sums touting their "we're all a family" BS. They use all the underhanded tactics they accuse union leaders of using, too.

It's so sad that many workers don't feel they deserve to have a union and many feel sorry for the company owner(s) -- as though a union on the property somehow hurts their feelings. I've seen this again and again.

8. I have actually had this conversation with some anti-union
people. And I basically hear the same two things repeatedly:

1) all consumer goods and services would be cheaper if not for union wages.

2) they resent the fact that union workers are paid better, have better benefits, collective bargaining, etc. So - here's the part I don't get AT ALL - instead of trying to get themselves unionized and/or fight for the same things, they'd rather get rid of unions so that no one is doing better than they are.

lousy managers.

25 years ago a Friend of mine ran a shipyard. He got all 29 Unions to sit down at the same time and worked out a contract. He kept the yard open. It still is. He used to say "Lousy Management makes bad Unions!"

10. Because of more than a century of propaganda...
teach people that they should fear and hate unions. The you tell a lie enough times, it becomes the truth.

11. One of the lead officers in our department really hated unions
as did several of his underlings in the hospital.
They loved harassing the union rep whenever possible and always had disparaging remarks about SEIU, WSNA and other unions in general.

The funny, hypocritical thing is when we were told to clock in for work in a different manner to reflect no paid lunches, the anti-union Lead threatened HR with unionizing the security department!

and the upper offices of unions are sown with the seeds of corruption.

16. they believe in mimicking their bosses in the hopes of someday becoming one.
they believe the road to success is dressing like the boss, talking like the boss, acting like the boss, voting like the boss, etc.

the boss hates unions, ergo they hate unions.

simple.

21. Well now . . . .
. . . . . Don't blame me for you having such a lonely life that you have to sit there, without benefit of human interaction apart from the Internet message boards, and make up long, silly, vividly imaginative, flights of fancy about people who you envy. If you weren't so mean spirited (through the smaller minds that you incite and enthrall with your silly ramblings - I call it Insult By Proxy Syndrome - I, like you say you already have to your fictional anthropologists, should submit it to a professional body for evaluation.) we might have some sympathy for the pathos that is your being.

But alas, you bring it on yourself with your peeping tomitude. How sad and dreary.
