Senate rejects Ryan budget; vote puts GOP on the spot
Senate rejects Ryan budget; vote puts GOP on the spot

Senate Democrats forced a vote Wednesday on the controversial fiscal plan drafted by House Budget chief Paul Ryan, splitting the Republican caucus and forcing several vulnerable GOP senators who are up for re-election to go on the record supporting or opposing sweeping changes to the nation’s Medicare system.

The vote on the measure – which failed as expected -- came on the heels of a decisive Democratic victory Tuesday night in a New York special election that focused heavily on the proposed Medicare changes.

Moderate Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine were joined by Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska in breaking with Republican leaders to oppose the Ryan plan.

Snowe and Brown are up for re-election in 2012.

1. Snowe and Brown can expect to be teabagged.
The extremists who have taken over the GOP will try to force both out in the primaries.

2. Great news!
Now we need to hammer the GOP Senators who voted for it.

3. CNN immediately got on board with Ryan to "get out the message" that
"it is a good plan". In an interview with him with a CNN reporter, they had him repeat his line about how the Democrats lied about his plan.

4. This is like any tool or weapon....
It only serves it's purpose if you actually use it.

If our current crop of Dry Powder Kings don't have the stones to actually use this and to hammer it home and bludgeon the GOP with ad after ad after ad after ad, and don't get afraid when David Brooks or Tweety or whoever yell at them for being mean to republicans, then this vote means nothing.

Of course the way Democrats usually handle these things what they'll do now is move on to something different, and cross their fingers and hope and pray really hard that the average, low information American voter remembers back a year and a half that this vote took place.
