Catholic Charities sues state of Illinois over new gay, lesbian foster parent rule

Springfield, Ill. — Catholic Charities is suing the state of Illinois over new rules that require them to allow gay, lesbian, and unmarried parents to become foster parents.

The new rule is part of Illinois' new civil unions law. Catholic Charities, which contracts with the state to find foster homes for hundreds of kids every year, does not want to comply.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Sangamon County, demands an emergency injunction to protect the Catholic foster agencies from being sued if they reject gay and lesbian couples. ..............(more)

3. Maybe it's time for the Catholics to get out of the adoption business
if their being in it results in any child not being placed with loving parents when such parents are available and eager to adopt.

6. they do /did provide another agency to help place kids.
as far as i know they have`t had any scandals and have done a good job. now they crossed the line by this veiled threat. it will place even greater case load on other agencies but that does`t matter to them.

7. Why is the Catholic Church still tax-exempt???
Every other day I read a new story about them using their money and power to influence our political system. It's really quite offensive, not to mention illegal.
