Suppose Weiner resigns ... now what? Special election?
Or appointment by governor? How would his replacement be determined?

Either way, it seems to me, the replacement would be a Dem who would then be the INCUMBENT in 2012. Hence, we hold the seat. And if that's the case, Weiner's resignation would be a win/win, and the Dems don't have to hear this replayed ad infinitum in the '12 campaign.

1. Special election.
Appointment by the Governor is only for vacant Senate seats.

4. I agree.. a decent Dem can win that district easily.
Weiner can go on to be a cable news political talking head and make alot more money than being a congressman.

5. If that's the case, he should resign NOW for the good of the party
Seems like a no brainer to me. His effectiveness and credibility are shot to hell. Let the party at least keep the seat.
