Why Weiner needs to resign
Plain and simple, nobody's gonna stop talking about this until he does. It's sad. Every aspect of it. But he brought this on himself. He needs to step aside so we can all move on.
Sorry. Just calling it the way I see it.

that is not you?
You're carrying on like he rented a billboard near your bedroom window with a pic of his penis on it. If you're so victimized by a 3rd-4th-20th hand duplicate of a pic that was not for you, to you or about you then you should seek legal representation. Tell them how hurt you were and how your shoes flew off after you fell down the stairs.

I'm bothered by his stupidity and his need to then lie about it afterwards! Those were his choices, not mine! He has become an embarrassment to the party AND congress because of his own dumbass actions! That's why he needs to go.

86. I ponder a great deal and you might take the same advise
before you accuse someone of not thinking............

It would seem that they media has great interest in democratic sexual organs
but when it comes to republican sexual organs they find little to talk about
perhaps you should ask them why this is........

On one hand you have a man that is proud of his penis and wants to share it with the world and on the other you have a man that hires prostitutes so he can dress up in diapers so he can be treated as a baby. I would be afraid of a Senator that thought of himself as a baby making decisions that affect my life.

This latest sexual media frenzy is a huge distraction, I agree, but it is the media that is feeding it and leaving the real issues on the floor so no one talks about them. Congress does not want to deal with them anyway.

I do not believe it has come out that he asked anyone for sex. I would ask you which is worse, sharing erotic pictures with people or trying to destroy this country by taking the rights and freedoms away from the American people?? I know which my answer would be.

Ponder that............

102. It is a distraction
The only person that should be concerned who hugs Michele should be Michele.

I do not know what the answer is. Should we have standards for elected officials?? Would they be applied uniformly?? Should we demand that any politician that lies be told to resign?? And yes the lie is worse than the act in this case. Did he hurt any one besides himself, his wife, his family?? He disappointed a lot of people but did he hurt them??

Will this country be better off if he resigns?? No way to know unless he resigns.............

Instead he chose to stand up and lie to the cameras. Stick a fork in Weiner, he's done.

42. First, you have no right to decide what is or isn't MY concern
Anthony Weiner took a picture of his dick. That's not my concern. Anthony Weiner posted it on a public account on the Internet and then lied about it. That IS my concern. Anthony Weiner is doing damage to his office and the Democratic party as a result of his highly stupid and inappropriate actions. That is my concern as well. Do not tell me what is or isn't my concern. Your beginning to sound a little fascist.

52. I can say with near certainty that anything related to Weiner's sex life does not involve you in any
way, shape or form. In other words, it's none of your business. Additionally, any comments about his sex life - which we have established does not pertain to you - are likewise none of your business. If you feel he is unfit for office then vote him out - IF you happen to live in his district. Perhaps a little counseling is needed to help you cope with a potentially unhealthy obsession with a certain legislator's reproductive organ.

Decades if you like. Until smears have no impact on society, and are not used by smear merchants to try and control a population. And until the smear merchants are investigated for the actions they are doing against society and many people.

Talk about it all you like. Every day if you want.

But don't back down to smear merchants. Or you are giving them the ability to decide what society should be like.

And while you talk about titillating gossip about people talking about sex, note your hypocrisy.

It adds some humor.

And the beer and travel money will be sent.

47. Not really, it is a rare moment of a bad joke.
To counter another bad joke in a small context of that song.

If you don't see the bad joke, or the other bad joke, then that is far better, but for those that saw a bad joke in the song, I figured I would correct that with a different bad joke. I usually just ignore it, but it is a bit of a brain smasher, so figured it needed a different perspective.

But really the fixation on sex by the news, and the use of sex to humiliate people, or use it against people is a problem that is limiting good leadership when everyone has flaws, and anyone can be smeared.

And if we could get the use of paparazzi, smears, and entrapments for smears, out of society, then thousands of people being held back from doing what they think is better would be able to have a bit more influence, by knowing they don't have to fear smears.

But anyways, there is a problem with the use of humiliation and smears used against people. And areas of removal of constitutional rights used to get those smears.

56. I agree with the use of smears argument you make
but, I feel, in this case, Mr. Weiner smeared himself. He has no one but himself to blame. And I don't have a problem with anyone playing with, experimenting with, or sharing their sexuality. When you decide to make it public, which he did, be brave enough to own up to it. Which he didn't. If he had come out and said, "You know what, that is my johnson, and I am damn proud of it". I'd be on his side right now. He didn't do that though. Too bad.

69.  Weiner and Israel...anti -human rights with the Palestian children
In May 2006, Weiner attempted to bar entry by the Palestinian delegation to the United Nations.<27> He claimed that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas did not represent the PLO, and implied that this was because the group is listed as a terrorist organization by the US State Department. Weiner further stated that the delegation "should start packing their little Palestinian terrorist bags." Weiner went on to claim that Human Rights Watch, the New York Times, and, in particular, Amnesty International are biased against Israel.

It is none of my business if he is twittering or flirting online, but I can't support anyone who has such an anti-Palestian position. Of course NY congressman may find it difficult to be elected being pro-Palestinian. Still, I vote my conscience. Even Obama did not win my vote, too beholden to his biggest corporate contributor Goldman Sachs.

46. The problem isn't the photos.
It's the obsessive and disproportionate attention they receive.

The solution isn't to cave to pressure. All that does is prove that this tactic works and encourage even more desperate panty sniffing from fourth tier "journalists" desperate for their 15 minutes.

The solution is to stop paying attention to them. And to write to your local media and ask them to stop paying attention to them.

I mean, it's not like the economy is in such amazing shape and we've achieved world peace, solved the energy crisis and climate change, cured AIDS and eliminated poverty, so we have nothing else to worry about besides a slightly vain but otherwise bright and effective man sending rude pictures to groupies.

79. Arnold and Edwards, yes,
unless they were using state resources to screw around, in which case I say prosecute away.

Dominique Strauss Kahn committed a crime- attempted rape. So yes, he should be prosecuted.

Anthony Weiner, as far as we know, did not use state resources and did not commit a crime. If evidence emerges that he did either of those things, I will be happy to give a shit. For the moment, I'm afraid I just don't.

87. Exactly.
I don't have a problem with the ethics investigation on Weiner (or on Schwarzenegger or Edwards). If it turns out they misused funds then throw the book at them.

But it's way too early to say "Weiner must resign" when it hasn't even been alleged that he did anything illegal.

101. Is this really *that* hard to understand?
Nobody has accused Anthony Weiner of doing anything even vaguely illegal. He is the subject of an ethics investigation which may or may not uncover evidence of wrongdoing. If it does and indictments are handed down, then, depending on the strength of the case, it might be appropriate to suggest that Weiner step down to focus on his defense.

Domnique Strauss Kahn was accused of attempted rape by a maid and is in the middle of an ongoing prosecution. There is absolutely heaps of evidence that he is guilty of committing a felony assault.

These situations are not remotely equivalent.

104. But you yourself
have declared the media at fault here. Kahn has been buried by them already, and you have willingly taken their pill. Why, I have no idea. So, it really isn't about the media, it's about our own personal beliefs. We make our own judgements based on what we hear. That's what the media's job is. To tell us, so we can make our own judgement. It's not their fault that Anthony Weiner goofed and sent his picture out into the public sphere. HE did that. Not them. And, maybe he didn't break any laws. It's not about laws. It's about judgement. One's own personal judgement and the consequences thereafter.

Posted this elsewhere:
He should just "hang in" there. Maybe give us a new pic every week or so. We'd all be so proud of our Weiner. Wouldn't we?
I think he needs some time off. Spend it with his wife. Get to know her a little. Screw what we want or need. I think he needs to worry a little about himself.

34. It is hypocrisy
and that is the crux of the argument. We can't have it both ways. If you dislike Arnold for impregnating his housekeeper, you can't turn a blind eye to Mr. "look at me ladies". I don't have a problem with people acting on their sexual impulses. But, when YOU decide to make it public, which he did, then you need to own up to it. If it becomes a distraction to your party, your piers, you need to step aside. Spitzer did it. He's fine now, and I'm fine with him. Anthony needs to look for another line of work.

who actually took responsibility for his actions and resigned and by doing so has had a stunning comeback and it will be interesting to see if he ever runs for office again.
I feel that Spitzer learned humility, something that Weiner is in need of.

Anthony can stay home and care for the baby that is supposedly on its way.

that's what we want politicians to do - represent our interests.

74. The standards have already been set - he should not resign
He should follow the example set by Vitter, Newt Gingrich and others and just keep doing his job.

If I were a republican I would be sitting back laughing my ass off at how people on this progressive Democratic forum are advocating the resignation of one of the most progressive Democrats in congress for doing something far less egregious and offensive than some of the shit my party's people have pulled over the years.

If you really think the republicans (and their friends in the liberal media) are going to cut us any slack because we throw Weiner to the dogs if have a bridge I want to sell you. They're laughing at you right now because you fell right into the trap they set for you.

IMO Weiner committed only one potentially fatal faux pas - he apologized to that piece of shit andrew brainfart, but that isn't reason enough for me to want him gone. Hopefully he'll realize he fucked up by doing that and not repeat the mistake.

Congressional morality standards are in the shitter thanks primarily to our liberal media's refusal to pursue republican's little adventures. Weiner is no better and no worse in this regard than many of his fellow elected officials.

just so I can say "we're better than them"?

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. We can crucify Rep. Weiner while they sit around laughing, destroying the American middle class with our help.

We're playing by the Marquis of Queensbury rules while they're kicking us in the nuts. In this case the stakes are so high that the ends DO justify the means. If I were Rep Weiner, I'd tell the republicans as well as the spineless Dems who are having fainting spells, I'm not leaving.

His behavior is indeed idiotic, but as I said before, the standards are already set waaay low. Weiner is no worse than others in congress and as long as nobody is calling for the resignation of a scumbag like vitter, Weiner should stay as well.

If we want to raise the bar (another trite phrase) it should be raised for everybody. I will demand Weiner's resignation when I hear a similar outcry from the republicans and the pundits for vitter's.

Wow. That should be real fun for all of us Democrats! Just imagine the kind of testimony by Weiner's Women that will no doubt be leaked daily to the media by gleeful Republicans! Fun, fun, fun!

And won't all of this set up such a wonderfully warm and conducive environment for the Democratic Party's messaging and recruitment campaign as Pelosi tries hard to take back the House in 2012?
