When you screw up with your SO, do you immediately point to others
that have also screwed up?

I've noticed a pattern here of constantly referencing others to excuse one's behavior.

Just curious as to how this works in your personal lives.

2. I think you're right, it is very childish behavior
and not grounds for any solid argument.

8. also from a very young age we taught them lying is worse...
sometimes than the actual event. Little kids might take something that's not theirs or break something they've been told not to mess with. When they lie about it, it creates doubt about other things they might tell you. We have always tried to be appreciative of the truth and respect them for that even when it might be very difficult for them to tell us.

I get lied to by the parents of our patients on a regular basis. Outright lied to. And I lose respect and am less likely to give them the benefit of the doubt "next" time.

9. again, you are right on. i have a brother that is a compulsive liar. ya know, we have native
american blood. wtf? no we dont. he lies about everything. things that dont matter at all. always on toes to pull out the lies. kids get it. and in this house, honesty gets a discussion.... lying gets ya mad.

they also see that both father and i dont lie. one reason is i dont do much to warrant the effort in a lie. other is, so what.... i am adult, i dont need to lie worrying about not being punished and another, setting a healthy good example for my boys. parenting. they learn that lack of need for lying. and behooves us not to. and how lousy we feel when we do. and end up being a bigger problem than telling truth.

3. It's a very juvenile thought process
Seems to make sense in kindergarten. But adults should have realized that pointing out the flaws of others (even if accurate) in no way excuses your own faults.

don't make any sense.

7. the ones calling for his head are comparing his behavior to their own.
the majority of the rest of us are calling for him behavior to be held to the same standard as other politicians who are still holding office, which is pretty low.

18. that is one of the issues with society today. how low do we go to meet the worst.
one of the worst, saddest thing obama did was not go after the illegalities of bushco. HE is responsible for allowing that bar to be lowered. now, that is where we are.

the same would be true with this.

i am not advocating weiner resign. but i do disagree with the very basis of your argument

Whenever I do something that my girl doesn't like, I just remind her that David Vitter also did something bad and expect immediate forgiveness.

17. I forgot to take out the trash on Friday.
When confronted, I told my wife that the trashcan had been stolen by Breitbart. After a week of trash piling up, I finally had to hold a press conference and come clean.

21. Furthermore, Republicans jettisoned Cliff Lee a few hours after his craigslist ad pics were revealed
Edited on Thu Jun-09-11 01:47 PM by ClarkUSA
They didn't whine about Bubba and his blow-job by and cigar dipping w/Monica Lewinsky in Lee's defense.

I guarantee you, had there had been multiple photos of Vitter dressed in a diaper with or without his erect penis bulging from it, he'd have been jettisoned in a NY minute, too.

22. Everybody does this today, on both the left and the right.
It kind of drives me crazy.

The conversation always goes like this:

Person A: "Congressman Joe Smith is a bad person!"

Person B: "It doesn't matter, because Congresswoman Jane Doe was bad first/bad too/still bad!"

Look, idiots - the fact that Jane is bad has ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING on anything about Joe. There is room for more than one bad person in the world (unfortunately). There is room for CRITICISM of more than one bad person in the world. It is completely irrational to attempt to justify or minimize the behavior of "your guy" by pointing out the behavior of "their guy", because those two things are completely unrelated.

Edited on Thu Jun-09-11 01:50 PM by ClarkUSA
They took him out after only a few hours of the craigslist photos hitting the press.

Most Democrats in Congress are not defending Weiner that way, either. I and other DUers sure didn't.

the consequences can be.

If someone suggests that for jaywalking I should be punished as a felon, I sure as hell am going to point to the fact that other people got small fines or no punishment at all for jaywalking.
