Minn. State Rep. Writes Constituent, Calls Unions ‘Communist’ And Invokes Hitler And Castro
A public employee union in Minnesota is publicizing an e-mail that Republican state representative Tom Hackbarth sent as a reply to a union member who sent him a constituent letter, in which he called unions communists and compared them to Hitler and Castro.

As MinnPost reports, one of the state's public employee unions, the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE), has coordinated a letter-writing campaign in support of Gov. Mark Dayton's (D) budget proposals including a tax increase on the top 2% of incomes in the state, compared to the Republican-led legislature's proposals to balance the budget entirely through spending cuts.

Union member Robin Seifert's constituent letter to Hackbarth was one such message. "We have a choice. We can either protect the richest Minnesotans and large corporations or we can protect the vital services that average Minnesotans depend on," Seifert wrote in part. "Are you willing to take away health care from 140,000 Minnesotans just to protect the 40,000 richest people in Minnesota?"

<snip>

Hackbarth's e-mail reply, sent on Thursday, June 9, at 10:14 p.m.:

Robin,

I can't believe what I'm hearing from folks? All, similar letters to yours.
Are you a Union member? If so, are they the communist giving you this propaganda?

Do you know the who, what, when, where, why, and how, of Fidel Castro?
Hitler rose to power using and blaming the jews for the destruction of the German economy. Castro built his army of murderers by blaming the rich bankers and capitalist for destroying Cuba and taking advantage of the Cuban people. Hummmm?

Representative Hackbarth

Phone and e-mails messages to Hackbarth's office by TPM have not yet been returned.

1. SHe is using language the Nazis used after Hitler was installed
the irony is amazing and yet no one in the media dares to point out this historical fact, of how Hitler went after unions and anyone to the left.

3. Gosh, that's awful
Apart from the "content" of the letter, the grammar and lack of understanding of punctuation is, frankly, embarrassing.

Did this representative graduate high school?

I can not believe from what I am hearing from folks like you because all letters that are
similar to the one that you sent seem to be from union members or their supporters and they
tend to have communist propaganda in them.

It was really hard trying to clean that gibberish up. :dunce: I think my brain suffered from some kind of a HACKBARTH.

Sorry about the snark before. I'm just frustrated with the God-botherers in my state like Bachmann and Pawlenty.

7. Please note, this is the same rep who was found in a Planned Parenthood parking lot with a gun
supposedly looking for a girlfriend he met online. The clinic workers thought he was a protester and called the cops. Turns out there was no girlfriend, he was looking for another woman he did actually know, but who said she had no idea why he was there or why he would bring up her name.

He's bizarre and clearly illiterate.

If we were "communists" back then, what were the Russians?

oh, right, they were the guys who spied on their own people, tortured prisoners, rewrote their history when politically expedient, covered up massive polluting energy-related accidents, spent way too much of their resources on their military, and whose leadership ignored the standard of living for the average citizens while they lived well in their splendid dachas.
