How Today's Conservatism Lost Touch with Reality - Excellent write by Fareed Zakaria, Time Mag
Conservatism is true." That's what George Will told me when I interviewed him as an eager student many years ago. His formulation might have been a touch arrogant, but Will's basic point was intelligent. Conservatism, he explained, was rooted in reality. Unlike the abstract theories of Marxism and socialism, it started not from an imagined society but from the world as it actually exists. 3. I like this read but honestly conservativism is rooted in fantasy
Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life". It only works if your community has the amazing George Bailey. For every other place on Earth, they need the Government. Funny enough in their absolute old timey Conservative fantasy, the place goes to * without George Bailey. Even in the ultimate conservative fantasy world. It ends up in hell without government intervention (or an amazing super human). But it's funny that that old time conservative world of George Will's fantasy youth is the high point of conservatism matching reality :)
