So, Southern schools are encouraging students not to go into the profession and a question about HC
So, I had reason to see an old friend recently. The friends adult child who was in their first year of college for Physical Therapy (in the South) is switching their major to business. After sitting down (as I am told) with their advisor and teachers the students are being encouraged to switch majors because with the new healthcare initiative, payouts will be so extraordinarily low that it will not be worth while to go into the field.

Now, I could (and did) argue the point that payouts from my own private insurance company are even less than Medicare/Medicaid in some instances and given that, there are some of my providers who would prefer I have any other insurance than the one I have....

As you can imagine the conversation fall's further, under Obamacare you will only be allowed 7 visits to a doctor per year.. Well, that is a new one to me, I hadn't heard any such thing, not even out of the right blogosphere, somehow I must not have paid attention to that nugget...

On the other hand my friend is fully aware of what the R's have done to Social Security and are doing to it... At least he's got that right...

Overall, I'd say it was a fairly stunning conversation until I could conveniently change the subject.....

7. Some redneck in a pulpit, undoubtedly
which is why it's getting such wide circulation.

2. Stunning conversation, I'd agree.
But I wouldn't make such a broad generalization about Southern schools based on an anecdote about one student's experience with one advisor. I wouldn't expect this to be representative of anything except that advisor's mistaken opinion.

4. Apparently the advisor has been sharing his mistaken opinion with wild abandon
Honestly I was shocked...

Of course I also got the "people come to the US for treatment line", well, just as many leave the U.S. for treatment for a variety of reasons, so just because someone came here for one procedure don't assume we have the HC market cornered,we clearly don't.... That was an easier argument to make to be sure.
