Iraq must have WMD.

There is no way that it's just a fabrication to whip up a case for war!

Too many people would have to know if the Bush admin was trying to fabricate evidence.

It would require a coverup that is simply not credibly possible.

Do you have any IDEA how many people you are suggesting must be "in on it"!?

Come on. I've got a bridge to sell you (chuckle chuckle).

1. Huh? We knew it was BS. Robert Fisk did detailed reports.
There were inspectors who came out and said that it was a farce.

We know he destroyed or buried his stockpiles.

2. My guess is they interpreted the raw data.
To say what they wanted it to say, to support what they wanted to do.

They should have sent the beer and travel money that is due to me.

Although who knows what they used for raw intelligence.

3. I don't know anybody who actually believed that. Even most
republicans I knew tried to use other reasons for invading because they knew the WMD story had too many holes.

4. Even when Powell was giving his report to the UN he didn't believe it himself.
It was a very anger inducing thing because Saddam was happy to have inspectors. The inspectors went in. They weren't finding anything. Bush said that was "proof" that Saddam was hiding something! It's hilarious!

6. You don't think Powell believed it?
So why did he say it and why was he so "angry" later.

Do you think he was feigning outrage afterwards?

5. Only true blue Bush-haters believed otherwise.
I think a lot of people know like to say they KNEW, but it was really more of a suspicion for most people I think.

It was the speck of doubt that allowed it to be effective.

What IF he has them, etc.

But the larger point I am making is that many people DID know had fabricated evidence such as the 'Yellow Cake Uranium", but it didn't come out despite the large number of intelligence people that were forced to remain closed mouth about it.

10. Actually, the Bush administration threw numerous excuses out
for going to war in Iraq.WMD was only one of many. It wasn't that they convinced people that he had WMDs, it was that they painted him as the next Hitler and it worked with a lot of people.

13. Looking backwards with 20/20 vision.
At the time, as I remember, I was against the war, but I believed that Iraq had WMD programs. I was skeptical of the administration's arguments, but there were two pieces of evidence that later proved to be wrong: (1) Hillary Clinton said Iraq had WMD programs and (2) Judith Miller ran her lies in the New York Times.

Hillary had an excuse -- she didn't know Iraq had abandoned those programs since Bill's administration.

Judith Miller had no excuse. Her behavior remains a bloody stain on the record of the Times and journalism itself. She still has her journalism "chops" -- latest article I was able to find was http://w3.newsmax.com/a/jan11/terrorism/ -- but the only one who'll publish her is the conservative online news agency Newsmax. At 63, I wonder if she'll ever be able to redeem herself...
