I have to hand it to Obama he apparently struck a nerve with his presser yesterday
Edited on Thu Jun-30-11 08:47 AM by WI_DEM
the GOP and their enablers (Halprin) are resorting to calling him names ("dick"!!) and cry baby Boehner is accusing the president of burying our kids and grandkids in debt, conveniently forgetting that it was Bush who blew a surplus and caused the economic problems we have today.

I say to President Obama--keep on being a "dick" and as the deadline looms, I would say go on national television prime time in the oval office and give a speech which says:

1) A summary of what you inherited by the GOP
2) contrast private sector jobs created under you than with Bush
3) Explain that the GOP is holding the country hostage because they don't want millionaires to get a tax increase
4) Explain that they want to cut Medicare and Social Security but protect the Bush Tax Cut
5) Urge viewers to put pressure on the GOP to increase the debt limit and to allow the wealthy to share the sacrifice for the problems that the GOP caused.

and wanted very badly to log onto DU because it looked goooooood! Unfortunately, I didn't have time and still haven't had time to get the details, but it's on my 'To Do' list. He always comes out with something good the day after I'm ready to give up on him, LOL. I mean ALWAYS.

14. I might be a little twisted. but damn this
is like a boost to me. Gives me a great sense of pride in Obama. I sure wish I knew what he did to piss them off to that extent. They have always hated him, but they controlled it, he sure put a burr under someones saddle.

4. To add:
I think that I read somewhere (I'll have to remember where I saw it) that the GOP "resolve" on taxes *may* be weakening as well. Of course, it's too early to know exactly how the rest of this drama is going to play out but yesterday's presser and the reaction it's getting doesn't suggest that Obama and most Democrats in Congress are willing to cave to the GOP's increasingly insane demands. I'm also beginning to think that the GOP leadership will be the ones to give some ground- provided that they can find *something* to help them "save face" with the Tea Party Cult.

6. Problem with the Halperin remark, is it will suck the air
out of Obama's speech yesterday. The only news that will be on t.v. is Halperin's remark. It will be analysed until the cows come home.

If he used your talking points, I would not be able to ignore the fact that he failed to say anything about the $3 trillion plus being spent on pointless and unwinnable WARS!

I don't think I'm alone thinking this. Most people cannot fathom why the US remains in so many wars that, even if they made sense, the country simply cannot afford.

If he remains silent on this, then he's just talking around the margins of what is really wrong with the U.S economy.

19. It's tough
Not a one of us could meet with those generals and come out unmoved. It is the nature of things.

We would all err on the side of caution. Let us move to the healing and deal with the ugly later (if we can).

That's the answer right there. He doesn't because he's become part of the B/S.
He wants to be re-elected so he's not going to piss off his wealthy donors.
He's been gamed.

But these days, what we were taught in school 50 years ago that anyone could be president ?
Sure, if you've got sponsors to back you, then you owe them big time.
I voted for him last time, if he doesn't grow a pair by 2012, I don't know what's I'll do.

choices. WE all return to hell if the majority of the choices return us to the days of the right wing domination.

Edited on Fri Jul-01-11 05:51 AM by Enthusiast
when have the Republicans been even respectful or decent toward Obama? NEVER!

Being called names by the Republicans works like a Geiger counter. A higher the name calling count indicates you are on the correct pathway. My answer is to piss them off so badly that they can't even voice their outrage -only sputter and spit in their overloaded angry condition.

To achieve this meltdown I suggest that Obama hold a press conference today where he announces a proposal to reduce the retirement age to 62 and increase social security benefits by 6%.

27. It's a clever issue, isn't it?
Even the bought-and-paid-for press can't stay away from the Bush Tax Cuts issue because it's a primary issue of interest to 95% of Americans (even though 25% of them don't know it).

From the actual reporters on up to the owners, who primarily come from money or make enough of it to benefit from tax cuts for the rich, hate the issue and wish it would go away, but it sells papers and commercials, so they have to cover it or risk being left behind by the less-yellow press.

Even better, last December the President and Dems in Congress gamed the "compromise" in such a way that its expiration cannot be stopped so long as President Obama is reelected, and every time it comes up voters are reminded that the Republicans were willing to hurt suffering Americans directly in order to keep someone else rich.

So expect to see some permutation of this theme every week from about now until about 15 months from now.

28. He just told the truth.
He didn't pussy-foot around or dilute it in Washington verbiage. He basically told them to quit screwing the middle-class, poor, and elderly by closing corporate loopholes and making the rich pay their fair share of taxes.
