Pelosi On Key Social Security Cut: ‘The Dirty Rotten Devil’s In The Dirty Rotten Details’

<snip>

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has made one thing clear, publicly and behind the scenes, in high-stakes debt discussions: Her caucus won't support Social Security benefit cuts, and Republicans better listen closely, because they need Democratic votes to increase the borrowing limit.

But she may be powerless to stop one increasingly discussed plan to lower Social Security's cost of living adjustment, which would escalate cuts to the program over time.
Though in public, and more frequently through surrogates, she agitates against the change, it's an idea that has bipartisan support -- and so a likely candidate in any final debt deal.

At her weekly press conference Friday, Pelosi explained how a measure like this might pass muster -- or might not.

"There's concern in my caucus about what would happen with CPI, some think that it's a benefit cut, others do not," she admitted. "The dirty rotten devil's in the dirty rotten details."

1. Social Security hasn't contributed one penny to the deficit - it's a travesty...
...that it has been brought into this discussion.

3. Social Security
Wasn't Social Security Borrowed from? If that is so, it should be increased to make up for the money taken away from it.

4. I have a "friend" who just informed me that since the ss money was
put in the general fund, the congress spent it and it is now gone. Further spending will just break the economy. I am so mad, that I am afraid she will not be my friend for much longer. I can't stand stupid. I guess she means that the lower we go with benefit cuts, the more money we'll have for war and tax cuts.

5. Not to worry, any bill calling for COLA cuts will be vetoed by Obama.
Won't it?

6. It is a cut, those who say otherwise are full tilt liars
I will not vote for anyone who votes for that Chain of Fools CPI Cut. Nor anyone who signs it into law, they can all just go have a daisy chain with their GOP pals and the Banksters.

9. Nancy Pelosi Asked a great question on Thursday...
During a meeting at the White House with Our Leaders in DC everyone in the room agreed that defaulting on U.S. debt would be disastrous and that something must be done. At that point, Nancy Pelosi asked: Why couldn’t the debt ceiling be decoupled from deficit reduction?

To which she was treated like the children at Thankgiving Dinner. More or less told to sit down and shut up, even by President Obama!!!!

She most likely spoke the only intelligent words spoken during the meeting.

WOW! She has bigger balls than any of the men. Go Nancy!

10. Tweaking COLA calculation is a benefit cut -- plus it's dishonest.
Pretending to do away with the problem of inflation by fudging the index. Like improving student performance by adding to test scores.

11. The Consumer Price Index is a fairy tale number designed to hide real inflation.
Anybody who shops knows there is some serious inflation occurring.
