Bill Nelson (D-FL) doesNOT support repeal of DOMA

Dear

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Defense of Marriage Act and S. 598, the Respect for Marriage Act of 2011. This legislation was introduced by Senator Feinstein and is pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Defense of Marriage Act, (Pub. L. 104-199) enacted in 1996, defines marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman for the purpose of Federal law and also provides that one State is not required to recognize same-sex marriages from another State.

The Justice Department recently announced that it will no longer defend legal challenges to the Defense of Marriage Act in court. I believe that the States, and not the Federal government, should regulate the institution of marriage.

I appreciate your sharing your thoughts with me. Hearing from you helps me better serve you in the Senate.

So MY NEW YORK Marriage, My STRAIGHT DAUGHTER'S NEW YORK marriage, but my LESBIAN'S DAUGHTER'S NEW YORK marriage will NOT be recognized in Florida?????

You know what, you can take MY "sacred, holy, sacrament of matrimony" and SHOVE IT where the FLORIDA sun doesn't shine.

SOME of New York's marriages you recognize, but NOT ALL? Well, then don't recognize MINE either. Then, don't recognize ALL of New York's marriages. Better yet, GET ME THE HELL OUT OF FLORIDA

BTW, I am posting his response on my Facebook page for all to see. I will also tell BOTH my daughters to stay the HELL OUT OF FLORIDA.

1. this Nelson and that other idiot Nelson from Nebraska need to turn Republican.
It's flat out insulting that they call themselves Democrats. And they can take that idiot Heath Shuler with them, too.

3. despite my screen name, i'm a native floridian, back living here...ugh, i know
my two cents on this: New Yorkers make Florida livable. If it weren't for the sane transplants from "up north" this vast swampland would suck way worse than it already does. Bill Nelson is stupid for wading into this -- he's a mess, already -- but this is asinine.

What we need is for every pissed off married couple, gay and straight, who's had enough of this cultural apartheid to schlep themselves down here and force the f'n issue. Nothing speaks louder in Florida than the language of "future growth." Let it be known that Florida is off the short list of relocation/tourism choices until the state can act civilized.

Here's the direct link to Bill Nelson's email feedback form -- use it liberally!

6. I wrote back to him
Saying that you cannot "pick and choose" under the Equal Proection Clause WHICH marriages of another state will be reconized. I cited Loving v. Virgnia where the Lovings interracial marriage was recognized in DC, but not in Virginia. I said if Florida is not going to recognize my daughter's same sex marriage from New York, then Florida should not recognize MY New York straight marriage either. How would they like that one?

Pisses me off. Sacred, holy, sacrament of matrimony between one man and one woman (AT A TIME) Bull Shit.

I hate DISCRIMINATION in ALL forms.

4. I don't expect...

...ROMA to pass the Senate. It certainly won't survive a filibuster. And of course, it won't pass the House.

Thank you, Bill Clinton -- who was a real Democrat, not like Obama -- or at least so I've been told on here.

5. Tell Him He Voted For Repeal Of DADT
If gay folks can die for their country they should be allowed to marry.
