One man, Rupert Murdoch, with his international corporate media, has had so much influence
and control in the governments of UK, USA, and Australia -- and all for
his own benefit and profit. There's a documentary film made during the
Bush years "Orwell Rolls in His Grave" which clearly shows how this came
about. There are other news media, although not quite as powerful as
Murdoch's, doing the same thing.

It will be quite a job for us to divest ourselves of such evil control, and
never allow it to happen again.

1. Isn't he the wizard behind the curtain and we are in the land of OZ?
We need to clean house of all these creeps.

2. No, he's the wicked Witch of the West and his minions are the flying monkeys..
The wizard behind the curtain although a fraud, was a somewhat decent character.

6. You are correct. There is nothing decent about Rupert Murdoch and those of his ilk.

3. Yes, we need to clean house. I just wonder how it's going to get done. And Dems. also need to
broadcast real news with good shows on both radio and TV. in order to compete
with the Repubs. I understand NPR isn't doing well on radio. How do we help NPr?
Al Gore's "Current" just hired Keith Olbermann less than two months ago. I sure
hope Current will do well.

7. By the way, does anyone know how Current's rating is doing since
Keith joined it?

4. As has his nemesis and arch-rival, Ted Turner...I was looking forward to that fist-fight...
Rivalry with Murdoch and Fox

Turner has a long running grudge with fellow cable magnate Rupert Murdoch. This originated in 1983 when a Murdoch-sponsored yacht collided with Turner's boat during the Sydney-to-Hobart race, causing it to sink 10 km from the finish line. At the post-race dinner Turner savaged Murdoch, later challenging him to a televised fist-fight in Las Vegas.<26>
In 1996, Murdoch decided to enter the cable news market with the Fox News Channel, a 24-hour cable news station. Turner responded saying that he was "looking forward to squishing Rupert like a bug". Following its launch, Fox News consistently eroded CNN's market share and eventually became the most-watched cable news channel.<26>
In 2003, Turner challenged Murdoch to a fistfight, and later accused Murdoch of being a "warmonger". Murdoch himself backed President George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq, while Fox News was one of the staunchest pro-war media organizations which helped it to overtake CNN in the ratings.<26>

5. This recent history is highly interesting. I didn't know of the rivalry between the two
of them. Would Turner have handled the situation differently, if he had won
out? Anyway, Murdoch is the one in trouble now.
