Facing Ninth Deployment, Army Ranger Kills Himself. 'No Way' That God Would Forgive Him For What He'd Seen, Done, He Told Wife
By Susie Madrak

A spokesman for the base tells KOMO News that the nature of the death is still undetermined. But Staff Sgt. Hagemann's widow says her husband took his own life - and it didn't need to happen.

"It was just horrible. And he would just cry," says Ashley Hagemann.

Ashley says her husband Jared tried to come to grips with what he'd seen and done on his eight deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"And there's no way that any God would forgive him - that he was going to hell," says Ashley. "He couldn't live with that any more."

1. You know it has to be worse than you imagine when volunteers resort
to suicide, not inductees.

3. WTF do we hope to achieve that makes it worth crap like this?
Ten years, thousands of lives and billions of dollars wasted and I've yet to hear a credible argument for why we are in Iraqistan.

This story made my blood boil. I feel like punching the next asshole that tells me we're doing this to protect our freedom.

7. Sounds like he just couldn't bring himself to go back one more time.
And you can't "quit". It's hard to get out of a deployment, especially if you're in an elite unit. I guess his best chance to stay home would have been to start telling doctors and commanders that he was mentally ill or depressed or suffering from PTSD, get it on record--but then there goes his career and reputation within his unit. Poor guy.

8. Your thread title froze my heart.
A family member was a Ranger, and did 6 tours before they finally let him go; he was stop-lossed for 4 years beyond the time he should have been done.

He came home with severe ptsd, and is out of contact with those who love him and are most likely to help and support him. We've been so worried, my first reaction is that it would be HIM in the article.

We need to end war and international bullying.
