Gallup: Obama approval rating dips to 39%
That 104% approval from liberals so often cited doesn't seem to be lifting these numbers. :(

====

President Obama hit a dubious milestone today, sinking below a 40% approval rating in the Gallup daily tracking poll.

Only 39% of respondents approve of Obama's job performance in today's Gallup survey, which calculates a three-day rolling average.

Another 54% disapprove of Obama's performance.

Bachmann is about as bat-shit crazy of a candidate in American history as there has ever been and her awful husband who thinks you can actually pray away the gay! These people are like some bizarre cultists. What a fucking scary thought.

5. It's
not "104% approval from liberals"

From Gallup:

The President's support among liberal Democrats is holding steady at 83 percent.

He has dropped 14 points among conservative Democrats and 8 points among liberal/moderate Republicans (is there such a thing?).

Gallup: Obama job rating sinks below 40% for first time

By Michael A. Memoli

President Obama's summer woes have dragged his approval rating to an all-time low, sinking below 40% for the first time in Gallup's daily tracking poll.

New data posted Sunday shows that 39% of Americans approve of Obama's job performance, while 54% disapprove. Both are the worst numbers of his presidency.

Obama's approval rating has hovered in the 40% range for much of 2011, peaking at 53% in the weeks following the death of Osama bin Laden.

<...>

The polling setback comes as the Republican race to unseat him has kicked into overdrive. The past week has been dominated by the activity in Iowa ahead of the Ames Straw Poll, and the entrance of a new contender in Texas Gov. Rick Perry. The candidates have routinely assailed Obama's leadership in appealing to conservative activists who dominate this stage of the nominating contest.

37. BUT the percentage who support traditionally Democratic/liberal policies is vastly different:
Most Americans support a woman's right to choose, at least some of the time. (abortions)
http://www.pollingreport.com/abortion.htm

77% of Americans supported the public option.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/20/new-poll-77-percent-suppo_n_264375.html

82% oppose cutting Social Security
http://elections.firedoglake.com/2010/11/19/toxic-shock-poll-confirms-social-security-cuts-are-still-political-third-rail/

The majority want taxes raised on the wealthy and oppose cuts to Medicare & Medicaid.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/04/19/968379/-Marist-McClatchy-poll:-Raise-taxes-on-the-rich,-preserve-social-insuranceprogram

And on and on. People may not LABEL themselves as liberal, but the majority actually support the same things that self-identified liberals support.

7. It doesn't help when people see something bad go down
(They have found not one person other than 98% Boehner to publically state that this debt deal was 'good') and weeks later, not only has nothing been done about addressing it, but they all know it will be several more weeks before Washington is back.

I can't be the only one who looked at Obama's announcement statement of the debt deal like the scene from Airplane! during the landing where Leslie Nielsen keeps coming into the cockpit (even after landing) to wish them good luck.

I have got to admit, although not asked by Gallup or anyone else, that my personal approval rating plummeted when I heard the WH called back OFA and the DNC from helping in Wisconsin so they could focus on "win the future" as if Wisconsin isn't/wasn't the major step needed for that vague concept.

You don't even have the courage to say that to me directly?

And not that I owe you an explanation, but if you actually read my posts, you would see that I have repeatedly pointed out that Obama has made mistakes and is on the wrong side of several issues. It's people like you who make him out to be some all-powerful demigod, not me.

Then again, when you type in all caps all the time, I don't assume reading comprehension is a vital part of your skill set. And if you don't like my insult towards you, just remember that you get what you give. I never insulted you before and yet you call me a "fucking swooning fan." Don't dish it out if you can't take it. At least I had the courage to say it to you directly.

29. Oh, I'm just fucking deliriious with joy!
I can't wait to spend another ten years without a regular job or health insurance, for watching whatever few tax dollars I have left to pay into the system go to support another decade of war with Oceania, Eurasia and/or Eastasia, for President Bachmann/Perry/Other Crackpot to fan the flames of homophobia in this country as we've never yet seen, and -- oh, this is the best! -- I can't wait to watch the Social Security I've paid into since I was 12 years completely obliterated just after My Big Happy Fucking 50th Birthday! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Now, will you kindly tell me this:

Why do you think liberals/progressives would ever be happy about the abject failure of the last, great hope we had to turn this country back into something vaguely resembling a democracy? Masochism? The thrill of being able to say "I told you so" while our homes are foreclosed, our teeth fall out, and we start taking a second look at Fluffy's can of Friskies as a viable alternative to, you know, food?

You tell me: What do you think motivates us to be so gol-durn delighted that our president is ruining the one chance we had to save the U.S.?

Or are you insinuating that all of us liberals/progressives are a bunch of right-wing plants/trolls/you-tell-me? Or racists? Racism is always a handy fallback when you've got nothing else.

And if the answer is "None of the above"... will you give this tired old "Liberals want Obama to fail!" crap a rest?

46. First, I was addressing the OP specifically.
He was the particular subject of my reply. He has done nothing but bash Obama, even when he's come through on the very things he's asked for. Want an example? He constantly posted about DADT repeal day in and day out, but the moment Obama actually repealed it? Not a word. I even confronted him about it, and his response was to put me on ignore. So either the issue wasn't important to him (which I doubt) or his hatred of Obama is so great that he can't even acknowledge what he did (despite asking him to do that very thing).

Now, I don't care if someone doesn't like Obama for whatever reason, but I want them to at least be upfront about it. And I am NOT saying criticism equals hatred. What I am saying is that a fair amount of the criticism on this site is either rooted in false information, hyperbole or some long-held grudge. Someone recently posted that Obama was a "demon." Am I supposed to take that person seriously? Is anybody? Because that's the level of discourse on this site these days.

As I was reading your post, I was struck once again by the eloquence of your words. I don't mean eloquence in the standard sense, but in a righteous-anger sense. You and I likely agree on many issues, but maybe we just view the process differently. I, for example, think Obama has done a good job on balance and within the limits of the system. Of course, he's made mistakes and of course he's slipped up, but I never expected a liberal Jesus to come along and fix everything. And I know you are too intelligent to have expected that as well, but unfortunately, some other people on this site are not. I frequently see knee-jerk reactions on here that boggle the mind, the never-ending "Primary Obama" threads one example of them. It's people like that-- the ones who expect a quick fix, the ones who think that one person can singlehandedly solve everything, etc. -- those are the people I can't stand.

You in particular are a member of a very small but worthwhile group here -- you are able to express your feelings in an intelligent and lucid manner. And while I may not always agree with everything you write, you construct your argument in such a way that I can at least understand and respect where you're coming from. That's in stark contrast to many other people here, like the ones who just throw up "DLC," "corpofascist" or whatever stupid buzzword pops into their head.

Now I do have to object to one element of your post. You said "Racism is a handy fallback when you've got nothing else." I don't think all criticism of Obama is rooted in racism. However, I think a fair amount is, and it's mostly on the Republican/Teabagger side. But that doesn't absolve certain liberals of their own racism. In fact, this site has allowed some members to post blatantly racist things (and not just against black people) and not get tombstoned. Racism is a fact of life, as is homophobia (as you very well know). But that doesn't mean it should be able to stand on a liberal website. I know you are certainly not a racist, but I don't think attempting to frame racism as some sort of "handy fallback" is very helpful either, even if some people have erred in leveling that charge against you.

With the recent rise of Bachmann and Perry, I'm not really surprised that a fair amount of DUers are still hammering Obama when their primary focus should be on the GOP. Bachmann and Perry in particular should be enough to scare the shit out of any halfway decent person, but I still see the circular firing squad going full steam ahead here. And like I said before, it's not the fact that people are criticizing Obama that's the problem; it's the tone and the approach. I know a few people here mock "The List" whenever it's posted. If they were to debate the actual points on the list, that would be a worthwhile argument, but no, they just mock the list itself, as if they either don't want to acknowledge his accomplishments or they're just too lazy to do so.

So to wind this up, there are certain DUers (like the OP) who have a vested interest in seeing Obama fail. No, you are not one of them, Sapphocrat. But they do exist here and they seem to have practically taken over this site. The irony is that if and when a Republican wins the presidency, they will be the very first ones to complain. Maybe then they'll realize Obama wasn't a "demon" after all.

But I always find it odd the people who automatically scream that people call them racist. Or who bring up "are you going to call me a RACISTONE!one!" in a post that hasn't had anything to do with racism.

It's just weird, is all...

I know a few people here mock "The List" whenever it's posted. If they were to debate the actual points on the list, that would be a worthwhile argument, but no, they just mock the list itself, as if they either don't want to acknowledge his accomplishments or they're just too lazy to do so.

22. The irony of it is that he may lose the election as a Democrat after enacting Republican policies
And be unseated in favor of a Republican. If he'd try Democratic policies he'd likely be reelected.

I know he's got a tea party House and they're the ones blocking everything, but we're still stuck with Republican policies under a Democratic president no matter whose fault it is. Democrats may well be punished for what the tea party did. Sad.

24. I will still vote for Obama even though he...
Caved on almost every important issue I stongly supported. Single payer, Bush Tax cuts, etc. now he's talking about ss and medi care. and uses the term entitlement program the phrase the conservatives made up to demonize it. That is the exact reason I'm a left of center Independent. If the Democratic party grew some balls maybe I'd rejoin. What happened to the liberal movement of the 60s. I want to be a part of that group. If the baby boomers were the same today as they were back then the recession would have come and gone. Now that the only major thing people are doing is complaining we are headed to a depression. Some people say it already is. Im talking about the great depression. PLEASE PEOPLE WAKE UP!! PATRIOTISM IS MORE THEN A BUMPER STICKER!!! IT'S TIME TO START A REAL MOVEMENT. Not one made by special interest and a couple of billionare brothers. Who's with me?

27. Same. As will we all.
No one wants a Bachmann in the oval office or a Rick (ack) Perry. Good thing he still has strong, solid support from this liberal base.

31. He's going to be roadkill if he doesn't get in step with liberals and the unions.
We know where we need to go and have ideas for getting there, but he doesn't. Neither do the Rethugs, and neither do the Indies. It's probably already too late, but "Lead, follow, or get out of the way".

The first thing he needs to do is fire his chief of staff Bill Daley, the JP Morgan alumnus. He doesn't need Congressional approval for THAT.

44. It's a flyer
I forget where, but I saw a listing of a bunch of different polls this morning, and all of the rest were in the 40s. Rasmussen, which covered the exact same days, was up in the 40s.

95% accuracy is just that - when one poll is low and a bunch of others are all higher, you can safely assume the number is not representative and it will straighten out on its own.

49. White House denies that two stops in Iowa are politcally motivated!!!
Obama is hearing footsteps!

Obama is set to launch something of a counteroffensive on Monday with a three-day bus tour of the Midwest, a trip that includes two stops in Iowa. The White House denied that the itinerary was politically motivated, however.
