5. Damned straight. That and unions made America great.
Also Medicare, the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Medicaid, women voting, and so much more that the "Right" hates.

11. At turning 77 a few weeks before I, it's shocking that a democratic president has decided to
lay the groundwork for gutting social security et al as the answer to the massive budget deficits and Federal debt created by the Republicans patently unfair tax polices and wholly irresponsible fiscal policies which have now been continued by him, even as the economy tanks again. :patriot:

15. I thoughtr it was in 1935 rather than in 1934, but I had to Google to check!

President Roosevelt signs the Social Security Act, at approximately 3:30 pm EST on August 14, 1935.<11> Standing with Roosevelt are Rep. Robert Doughton (D-NC); unknown person in shadow; Sen. Robert Wagner (D-NY); Rep. John Dingell (D-MI); unknown man in bowtie; the Secretary of Labor, Frances Perkins; Sen. Pat Harrison (D-MS); and Rep. David Lewis (D-MD).

16. And know this. They are coming for it.
They will talk bad about it and wound it so they can swoop in and steal it.

Defend it. Defend it from repukes and democrats if they try to take it away. The Plutocracy are making their play for it because for them 99% is not enough.

19. The Social Security act also included enticements and funding for Unemployment Benefits.
Without these 2 new deal programs and the FDIC we would be in a slump worse than the 1st RepubliCON Great Depression. It wasn't the stimulus act that prevented the US from falling into an economic crisis worse than the 1st RepubliCON Great Depression. It was the remaining New Deal Programs that have kept us afloat.

20. Which helps explain why Republicans hate it so much.
An enormously successful government program - an entitlement that even many Republicans themselves will not allow to be on the table. Now that sticks in the craw of people like Norquist.

36. It was signed four years, six months and seven days before I hit this earth screaming
There was a time in my younger working days that I feared it would not be there for me. But it was, and hallelujah for that! And I'm especially thankful it was there for my parents, who pretty much depended on it to fund their lives for many years.

Thank you, FDR, for your foresight, caring and ability to bring about results that actually helped and continue to help your fellow citizens!

Cheers!
