Rick Perry’s been on the campaign trail for only four days, but several of his comments are drawing scrutiny and causing controversy. A sampling:

The Fed: Perry said Monday it might be “treasonous” if Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke increases the money supply before next year’s election. “I don’t know what y’all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas,” Perry said. Commentators on the left and the right quickly criticized Perry, including George W. Bush aide Tony Fratto, who called Perry’s words “inappropriate and unpresidential.”

Obama and the military: The governor said Sunday that he wants to make sure each member of the military “respects highly the president of the United States.” He’s touting his own experience as an Air Force pilot but also questioning Obama’s lack of military service. Perry said that he was not trying to suggest that military personnel don’t have respect for Obama, but “people who have had the same experiences connect with individuals of like experience.” He added that Obama “had the opportunity to serve his country, I’m sure, at some time, and he made the decision that that wasn’t what he wanted to do.”

Obama and patriotism: Perry said while campaigning Monday that the American people want a president who is “in love with America.” Asked if he was suggesting Obama is not, the governor replied: You need to ask him.” Asked about Perry’s criticism by CNN, Obama said he would “cut him some slack. He’s only been at it for a few days now.”

yeah.... The Dallas Morning News LOOOOVES Perry.

6. Those of us who are Democrats are TRUE Democrats!
It takes nerves of steel to be an Open Democrat in many parts of Texas.

8. And that's not to mention that Perry appeared on stage with
evangelical Christian leader John Hagee recently where Hagee alleged that Roman Catholics "worship false idols".

OK, it's guilt by association, but why hasn't Perry denounced Hagee's religious bigotry?
