Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US

Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US was the President's Daily Brief prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency and given to U.S. President George W. Bush on August 6, 2001. The brief warned of terrorism threats from Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda 36 days before the September 11, 2001 attacks.

President's Daily Brief (2001)The President's Daily Brief (PDB) is a brief of important classified information on national security collected by various U.S. intelligence agencies given to the president and a select group of senior officials. On August 6, 2001, the Central Intelligence Agency delivered a President's Daily Brief to President Bush, who was vacationing at his ranch in Crawford, Texas.

1. It wasn't so much that he continued his vacation
It was that he disregarded the memo.

5. This wasn't the only -- or even the most important - briefing in August. Tenet flew to TX

to brief Bush at least twice in the the month leading up to the 9/11 attacks, and then perjured himself by lying to the 9/11 Commission during sworn testimony in 2004, claiming that he had "no contact" with Bush about terrorist threats during that period. Here's what actually happened.

13. There were also several CIA memos dated August 23 and 24 that Tenet would have read and briefed Bush
on that outlined various aspects of the AQ attack operation in the advanced stages. These are referenced in the Notes of Chapter 8 of the 9/11 report, "The System Was Blinking Red," reproduced at: http://911.gnu-designs.com/Notes_8.html. See, in particular, Notes 28-31, 34, and specifically, #39 - Intelligence report, Consideration by Abu Zubaydah to Attack Targets in the United States, Aug. 24, 2001. #40 - George Tenet interview (July 2, 2004).

14. That was SUCH an arrogant, ignorant thing for AWOL Bush to say
Edited on Fri Aug-19-11 09:56 AM by SpiralHawk
...blowing off staffers with clear warnings, and setting America up to get blasted into Kingdom Come on 9/11 by terrorists from Saudi Arabia (not Iraq, not Afghanistan).

Why did AWOL Bush never lead reprisals against his Republicon cronies Saudi Arabia?

18. I think of that statement every single time I see that asshole up on
that pile of debris with a bullhorn shouting about how "And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon".

"And the people who knocked these buildings down..." were known by that motherfucker a full month and then some before it happened. And there he is, acting like a goddamned hero.

3. Well I hope President Obama has the Security peeps on
24/7 serious watch while he gets some well deserved R&R, because since Cheney has a book coming out in another week or so, he may well wish for a serious attack since Obama not only has kept America safe for way longer than the Bushco Inc., but he also took out Bin Laden.

I do not trust ReTHUGS and they have already stated that their only goal is to make Obama fail.

7. An infamous image was that of Bush looking down on New Orleans during Katrina:

Even Republicans agree that was the beginning of his spiral down. Yes, in that case an image was worth ten thousand words. There is no image of Bush dismissingly reading that August memo.

21. Look at the polling data. Bush never recovered his approval rating after katrina.
He was at 53% in January 2005, by the end of the year he was at 40%. At the end of 2006, 33%

19. Richard Clarke said recently that the CIA knew that two of the
hijackers were already in the country and that the CIA tried and failed to enlist them. Oh, but BTW, the CIA claims the Director was not informed of the terrorist's presence in the country. Yea, right!

From our own David Swanson:

Richard Clarke Is Being Too Nice to George Tenet
http://www.international.to/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2001:richard-clarke-is-being-too-nice-to-george-tenet&catid=62:david-swanson&Itemid=94

USA 17 August 2011 Former National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-Terrorism Richard Clarke suggests that former CIA Director George Tenet blocked the sharing of information within the government on two members of al Qaeda in the United States, information that Clarke believes could have prevented 911. The CIA admits it knew about the two future hijackers but claims the Director was not informed.
