RIP Navy Seal Team 6 (2011)

RIP Kids of Columbine (1999)

RIP Kids and Federal workers of Oklahoma City (1995)

RIP Israeli Families eating Pizza (2001)

RIP 911 martyrs (2001)

RIP Norwegian party-of-the-people (2011)

HOW much FUCKING longer are we going to have to live with this shit in our midst? Domestic AND foreign, physical AND economic?

I don't give a flying shit whose side you are on in any given conflict - the whole thing is just fucking WRONG. That goes for you, Rumsfeld & Co and to the Obama-appointed sycophants who are waltzing around in your size 7 Cole Haans. Karma is a bitch and lord help us, I hope she is just getting warmed up.

*breathes into the bag*

2. Far more disturbing to me is the millions the US has killed in my lifetime.
MILLIONS of innocents have been slaughtered by the US while it turns its backs on the basic health care needs of its own citizens.

I tried to look for montages of Iraq/Vietnam/Somalia/Korea - but didn't find any, only solo pictures.

Meanwhile, we are "nation building" in Vietganistan and Iraq, they don't want us there taking their jobs (even though we made the GD mess in the first place) and our people are living under crumbling bridges while Faux & Co (who don't comprehend the difference between sales/excise, FICA, Medicare tax and FEDERAL INCOME tax) want the least among us to put "more skin in the game" before asking the rich to add a plugged nickel.

Yanno, Bonobo, there are days where I wish the Sultan of Planet ASDF-QWERTY would just beam his common sense ray down here and hit the reset button.

5. "We LIKE war. We're a war-like people"
Oh how I miss George Carlin.

The last few months, I have loaded up Unplugged In New York (1992?) on several occasions to fall asleep to as it was more relaxing than any nursery rhyme I could imagine. Breath of fresh air.

8. You are correct
We are a predatory killer species. It is not lost on me that the first story in the Bible after the creation story is how Cain slew Able.

10. Thats my problem, if I may rant
War/Peace - these fuckers don't give a shit. As long as their capital gains taxes aren't affected, they turn a blind eye.

War? Excellent! "Jeeves - Buy me 4 million shares of 'MIC corporation' the day before the contract is announced".

Peace? Excellent! "Jeeves - Buy me 4 million shares of charter schools and privately owned toll roads and short 'MIC corporation' until I tell you to call".

I am just so sick of watching the nonsense that people are swallowing as truth because "I heard it on the news" I could spit.

Someone hold me.

7. How long will it last?
As long as we enshrine the values that led to all of those deaths.

Competition/Exploitation vs. Cooperation

It's pretty simple, and it worked for us in the past as a species...but we seem to be allergic to treating other people AS people, rather than as things.

14. That song always makes me tear up.
Awesome rendition! Adding this but am going to listen to a second time.

It makes me think of lost pets and the rainbow bridge. Still looking for the ASDF-QWERTY reset, but thank you for that.

13. Like I said, I looked for other montages. This isn't about Americans,
Edited on Sat Aug-20-11 10:42 PM by Ruby the Liberal
it is a statement on humanity as a whole.

I violated a rule tonight in posting memorial photos to the memorial of a tragedy that happened 10 years ago last week (wrong forum), and it hit me that 10 year anniversary memorial photos should never be neglected, no matter the cause, no matter the reason - so I grabbed a montage that I could find and posted them. It was not to be exhaustive, only representative. August 9, 2001 15 people lost their lives eating pizza. It matters not who or why, but they deserve to be remembered, as do the others I listed who died for no GD reason than hate.

What would make my night? A victims thread. Domestic, foreign, 'enemy' agnostic. A photo montage of anyone who senselessly died due to the beliefs of another that ended up taking away their right to breathe for no benefit to, furtherment of, or protection of society.

ETA - sorry, not a truther on the Seal/911 thing. 4/6 > 2/6

17. And there is a good part of the problem - the "we" is assumed to mean
'our tribe' instead of humanity in general - the HUMAN impulse to solve problems by inflicting mass killings on some group you don't like.

12. We've pretty much always been barbarians.
Humankind (for now) sits atop the food chain, and with our "big brain", we set ourselves up as lord & master of all around us. The ones with hyper-aggressive tendencies make themselves into "leaders", who usually get others to do the actual dirty works of "removing" undesirables from places the leaders want for themselves. People who refuse to move along are killed or enslaved.
We may now be fighting over money & "business-y things" while underlings are routinely stripped of anything of value they might have, but we still "get physical" with people we disagree with or who have set up camp in a place we do not think they should be.

At the core is greed. fear and tribalism.

Corporate types do not enter a village at night with spears & take over the rivals..they use computers & banks & chicanery.

Politicians use words and laws they themselves get to create..They use media they supervise and coddle (and sometimes even appear to be aligned with politically.

"Odd" people who lash out at people they do not know (terrorism) are doing much the same on an up-close-and-personal level. They have a particular mindset, and seek recognition/adulation/emulation for their twisted philosophy (Hitler/Columbine guys/Norwegian guy/911 hijackers/bin Laden, etc).

At the end of the day it's usually fear of "the other", fear that one's own "tribe" is being denigrated/punished/misunderstood, etc., or that one's own greed can somehow be justified , and that abusing others in the furtherance of one's own fortune is okay.

The people have enabled these warmongers and profiteers. It will end when we make the decision to come together to stop them.

18. There's a reason one of the first stories in the Bible is about murder.
Humans have killed each other since before we were human.

We should strive for wiser leaders, more just societies, and the removal of profit from war, but the only thing that's going to eliminate the impulse to strike out at the "other" is time.

It is in us because our ancestors had it in them and they survived to pass it on.
