MLK and "Obama Bashing"
Just a thought to add to the plethora.

I criticise America because I love her. Because I want to see her as the moral beacon to the rest of the world.
Martin Luther King

MLK already said what I was thinking more eloquently.

Just a few other random thoughts from myself.

Perception is part of reality, fair or not. IF people think that obama doesn't represent them, then that has to be considered. Getting defensive or calling them trolls or implying they are stupid does nothing to alleviate that perception.

Not all criticism is the same. Saying that Obama weakens Liberal positions he should be supporting is the not the same as saying Obama is a secret Half Muslin Manchurian candidate.

And finally, voting is an emotional decision. Individual votes don't matter. It's a contradiction I know since without individuals voting then then we cant' have the large numbers of votes that do count. But very few vote with the idea that their one single ballot is going to decide anything. But they do vote because they get some kind of emotional satisfaction from the act. (even if they dont' think they'll win, they still get a sense they did something)

What does this mean here?

That the counter arguments about a President Romney/Bachmann/ Palin don't work. They make things worse in fact.

Lesser Evil arguments have a major flaw. They imply that even if your guy wins, YOU still lose.

And emotionally how is that any kind of motivation?

4. Here's the problem
Criticism without facts is faith(misplaced or not). Criticism with facts is simply an observation.

MLK and my hero Malcolm were making observations.

When you tell people to keep their observations to themselves, you're responsible for the result when reality bites back.

7. Beautiful quote. And he's right, of course. I also like the way Teddy Roosevelt put it

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

10. Recommended. Those who are interested in election outcomes
need to consider the different ways people view voting.

I also strongly agree not all criticism is the same. I have seen some valid critiques of President Obama, and I have seen some really crazy critiques of President Obama here on DU.

They're not the same?! But...like half of DU seems to think they're identical! :P
