Addicting InfoIt wasn’t that long ago that New York Democratic Congressman, Anthony Wiener, “tweeted” pictures of himself in boxers to a girl online. The outspoken Democratic, who was loved by progressives around the country for his spot on criticism of the Republican Party, saw his political career come to an end. Once the story broke, Republicans, conservatives and their home base, Fox News, jumped on the story to point out how disgraceful the once proud liberal was. We have seen many scandals involving Republicans in the past, including just a few months ago as Republican congressman Chris Lee was found to have posted shirtless pictures of himself on Craigslist. This time, the shoe is on the other foot.
The name that will now haunt the GOP is Roberto Arango. Arango is the Republican Senator from Puerto Rico and former co-chair for George W. Bush’s 2004 Puerto Rico campaign. Arango has been outspoken about his fierce opposition towards same-sex marriage and the civil rights of the LGBT community, but once again another conservative proves himself to be a hypocrite. This past Friday, pictures of the homophobic Senator surfaced online, and these weren’t pictures of himself in a business suit. These pictures weren’t even of the Senator in his boxers, like Anthony Wiener. The pictures that Arango took were too disturbing to even describe. Arango was caught not just naked, but in “compromising” positions. The Puerto Rican Senator tried to defend his actions with a less than stellar response.
“You know I’ve been losing weight. As I shed that weight, I’ve been taking pictures. I don’t remember taking this particular picture but I’m not gonna say I didn’t take it.”
Arango has since put in his resignation and has decided to step down. It seems that with each passing year, as Republican congressmen grow stronger on their stance against equality for the LGBT community, more and more of them get caught with their pants down, literally. The bigger issue is that when their pants are down, they are with other men; life, sometimes, is just ironic.
