4. It does look very petty,
and reinforces the impression that politics is just one big game and as president that he doesn't want to be a bigger man than that.

6. Agree and disagree- Obama has been taking it in the teeth for 3 years because
he wouldn't play the game. I'm glad to see him entering the game in a big way.

It's a win -win -

either he makes his speech September 7 in prime-time in front of Congress

or

the republicans tell everyone that a very early primary debate is more imporatant than the issue of jobs.

7. A dickish move
Which would be perfectly great if it signals a move towards a more hardball stance against the Republicans and their attempts to crush America under their boots.

Otherwise it just looks petty and somewhat ill-conceived.
