We complain about corporations, and then buy their Chinese crap.
I have to admit, I am really getting tired of people who complain and complain about corporations and then run out to buy every new piece of crap that they offer. Do you want them to change?? Boycott their goods. Since most of their stuff is made in China, we won't be putting our American workforce out of business. You really don't need a TV in every room, with that new 48 inch flat screen in the middle of your living room. I don't ever watch TV anymore, and my life has improved tremendously!!! I can see movies on netflix, and don't have a cable bill anymore. I don't buy new things most of the time: I buy used things or new things at auctions. I just got a 60 inch propane heating fireplace with a gorgeous wooden mantle for $175 at an auction. I buy old kitchen goods - plates, glasses, pots and pans. They are charming and/or very well made. I have an i-phone, but it is 2 years old - and Apple makes their stuff in China, too. Really bothers me. I have a Macbook, too, so why do I need an i-pad??? I am not liking Apple, why would I give them one thin dime now, when I have what I need and I don't like them. Dell even has their service overseas, so I stopped buying them two years ago. Plus, they get wrecked by viruses within 6 months.

My point is, that there are lots and lots of ways to "stick it to the man," but they entail Americans changing their ideas about what they actually need to buy. We really need very little to be happy. And much of what you use for entertainment can be gotten at the public library.

Just a thought. I do this, and feel that I am doing my share in avenging the jobs that corporations shipped overseas.

4. Thanks for understanding. I do get frustrated.
We all moan, but don't take the action needed. We should have a "Buy nothing made in China" month.

5. See, I read this as 'I have a bunch of stuff but I feel bad about it
and have reasons for it, but others who have a bunch of stuff are just hypocrites'. Anyone with an i-Phone has not standing as a non-consumer in my house. Sorry. That qualifies as 'had to rush out and get one' around here.

7. I run a dog rescue, and need internet service
when I am in my car, which is about 6 hours a day. So it was a business necessity. Lives often depended on me being able to contact people. And I don't have a bunch of stuff at all. I did, but have downsized, and don't buy anything anymore.

But thanks for your concern. :)

10. Well,
It's a nice guilt trip, if you want to take it, but I choose to skip it. Yes, it would be nice if stuff was made here, but the computer upon which the OP typed the posting was most likely made in China. My 1998 Ford Ranger has parts from several different countries. The purchase of a Toyota Yaris was the product of a year long search for the best gas mileage in the price range (I get 41.5mpg). I would have purchased an American "brand" car, but none could beat the mileage.

People purchase things for different reasons and I don't believe it is up to me or the OP to sit in judgement of those decisions. It is their money and I believe they (and I) get to make their own choices based upon needs and wants. There are a significant number of things in play here and my choice (or a collective choice) of an iPad or to do without isn't going to change things.

It's nice to buy old kitchen goods from an environmental/recycling aspect, but that doesn't bring back American jobs beyond perhaps the sales clerk in the re-sellit shop.
